I'm sure he considers NDSU the same level as SDSU, so both are probably out. You don't see too many 6'6 QB's with rifle arms in the FCS, I'd be surprised if he didn't go FBS.Quote:

That's not the point, he chose FBS first. When it was apparent that he wasn't going to start for Pitt, dropping down a level to FCS in order to play immediately instead of sitting out a year was the logical choice to make regardless of what team he wanted to play for. I think what the Jack fan was saying is that you rarely see 6'6" QB's with talent like Flacco commit to a non-FBS team right out of high school, and there is a lot of truth in that.Quote:

Hinz: Maybe he's viewed as either side of the ball. If a couple stud DTs are signed, he goes offense. If not, he plays DT.

How about identifying talent, offering....they accept. Then, if the kid were to blow up as a senior, like many of these kids will, they hopefully will stick to their verbal and not pursue the bigger schools. Hinz in Nebraska is a great case of this. There is not a "shocker" verbal in the group. Just because one team does it...doesn't make it wrong. Maybe Bohl is just being more 1A than 1AA right now. All the big schools have a batch of verbals right now. Just because UND and SDSU doesn't....people are trying to figure out why we do. Classic. UND has a damn thread about this right now....and now SDSU's beat writer is wondering....great stuff.

Terry was posed the question on his live blog today "what's the deal with NDSU signing so many players so early?"
His answer was,
Honestly, I'm not sure because I haven't spoken to anybody in that program. However, from the outside - and I posted this on my Twitter page earlier this week - I can't help but wonder if there is some panic going on. Eight verbals before the start of the season is really, really high for an FCS program. Wouldn't you want to wait and see if a kid "falls" to you, rather than maybe snatching up a kid early who might be a reach? And won't at least one of those eight get hurt this year? Seems strange.

From an outside looking in perspective, I'd agree that I was kind of scratching my head too. It's not like the recruits signed were being wooed by big time programs or anything. Most of them are local recruits whose competition was UND.
So is NDSU's thinking:
A. These prospects are can't miss, we don't even need to see their senior year. Sign them up now before other teams catch on.
2. This season might not end up much better than the last season so let's strike while the iron is still somewhat hot and sign these players before we have another mediocre season.
I know some NDSU fans might agree, and others will vehemently disagree but this years team has some HUGE question marks. Moves like putting McNorten at WR and bringing in Zo at TE makes it seem like their isn't much confidence in the passing game. Not to mention alot of talk of true freshman seeing significant time. Not to say this team doesn't have the potential to do some nice things and make the playoffs, but it also has equal or more potential to fall apart and have a down year.
Not being mentioned is that NDSU has alot of new coaches, different philosophies, differnt recruiting.Quote:

Most of the recruits that have been offered were at the Bison summer camp where the coaching staff had a chance to evaluate them. If the Bison coaches identified them as FCS recruits, why shouldn't they offer them? Why wait until other programs start recruiting them after their high school senior seasons?
DJ is still the #2 RB...you cant let a player with his skill set sit on the bench while PP is the #1, isn't the name of the game on offense to get the ball in your playmakers hands? Can't get it in his hands if he is standing on the sidelines. Zo won't sniff the field at TE, as harsh at that may sound, the TE position is not a concern. Everyone thinks playing true freshman is such a negative thing, but lets face it, the days of redshirting an entire class are over, these kids are coming into college more prepared, with the physical size and skill to compete and make an impact from day one. SDSU is not immune to its question marks heading into the season either, who is going to replace Berry? I think all Bison fans know what kind of an impact losing a great QB can be...Quote:

Those kids graduate and you must replace/reload them.
Sour grapes to Terry in Brookings. I am excited to follow these 8 kids in their senior seasons....including the Bismarck QB who plays at Fargo North tomorrow night.
