Yeah, pretty sure thats a load of crap, unless something changed.
Izzo said we can make a $42m budget work.
I think the issue is what others have said, we simply haven't had an invite thus far. It's possible that changes after all the FBS moves get finished.

What about SDSU? They’re an absolute must for a travel partner, no? If things are tight for us I can imagine where they’re at

Haven’t looked into SDSU’s finances, but sure would suck if the Jacks are holding us back.
I have seen things suggesting the Montanas might not move due to budget.

Someone with closer ties to Xtra Points might be able to infer some insight. Sounds like media deal constraints or student fee issues
It seems these media types simply assume too much when they lump NDSU in with other FCS programs. I don't think even someone like Brown who "reports" on a lot of moving and shaking with college football understands how different NDSU is than other top level FCS schools/programs.

When did Izzo and McF become VP Finance and Comptroller of NDSU?

SDSU would have to trim; they're running 20 DI sports. Not sustainable.
The Montanas are running 15 each and min is 16; they'd have to add (likely womens) sport.
Of the three only MSU is at $6M scholarship dollars (min).
NDSU is also under the $6M annual minimum. Add'l FB (63->85) plus 22 for women (balance) would get it close.
UND is 17 sports and over $6M.

They both reported they have been told by NDSU the money is not a problem.

SDSU is so over the top in how many sports that have. I'd think they'd see the light if they had the opportunity though. With that said, the optics won't be great.
Keep in mind that SDSU is probably just for the first time tasting bigger money. Folks attitudes are starting to change down here and more money is coming.

I dealt with this last weekend. Went to Madison to visit a buddy and catch the game. It was inconvenient to not know.
But such is life.

Not really.

This is largely a “problem” that affects schools for Saturday prime slots on ABC/ESPN platforms. MAC and MW don’t have that issue.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Sean Fredricks (sp?) former linebacker was on the pre-game show with Dom and Jeff and was pretty bullish on FBS seemed somewhat optimistic.
Sam Herder seemed somewhat optimistic on Bison 1660 this morning as well. Who knows?
For some reason, I'm still hopeful. Maybe wishful thinking, IDK.

I find it very hard to believe that someone who is a journalist for a living could know and keep a secret.
Its most likely your imagination. :(

As much as it pains me to say this, I agree. Granted, those guys can hear credible rumbles, so hard to say.

Journalists know all sorts of things that don't get reported

It’s a little trickier than that though, isn’t it? They “know” certain things that certain sources have said to them, some on the record, some off… the journalistic choice in what to report isn’t always black and white and the standard is different from journalist to journalist.
Personally I’ll have a hard time believing a move is going to happen until our AD or a conference official announces it.

These types of things normally "leak" thru Tier 1 FBS reporters once discussions/talks get heated. I very much believe NDSU is interested and pursuing it. That doesn't mean any of the conferences have reciprocated with serious discussions yet. They probably won't consider FCS teams until the FBS teams finish their reshuffling first.

Sean is the last guy from Jamestown to play at NDSU. I think Tim Fletcher went the same year but transferred back home after a year or so.

Agree that I think Matt is actually probably doing more than he says he is. I mentioned this before, but I’ve heard the local Forum writers say that he has people who are in contact with the right people but he isn’t “personally” in contact so he can maintain propriety with the MVFC. That seems totally reasonable and makes sense to me.
My earlier post is more to your final point, that it matters more what G5 conferences are doing than what Matt is doing. I’ll believe it when I hear it from either Matt or a conference official, but until then, it will remain speculation.

On one hand he wants the MWC (or MAC for that matter) to see what we have going on at NDSU but on the other hand he knows that his article will make no difference and he's writing it for clicks and discussion.
If you're free at 7pm central on saturday flip on over to ESPN2 and watch the Bison and Jacks. I'm sure you'll be entertained by what you see and it might give you a feel for what the schools can bring to the table (regarldess of the outcome of the game).

He is a journalist and has many connections at the school. Does what he says matter? Not really, but he has access to all the right people and i'm sure he hears things off the record.

Essentially saying the MW is stupid to even consider NIU and Toledo seems like an odd way to get Gloria's attention..I do think NDSU has been vetted to some degree. Lots of schools are under consideration in lots of ways..My guess is they would like one more all sports member and call it good. However, Glory did reiterate this morning how important basketball is to the MW so maybe they try to add with that in mind. Football drives the bus but the MW is sitting on a pile of cash from basketball credits over the last 5 seasons. It is an excellent revenue source.

The reports of Football only membership was a key point of Mike’s article.

I understand the key point. I am certain the MW has explored many different options. This is early in the process. One of the ideas is to expand to 12 full members and have divisions. That could include NDSU. I don't think a random guy crapping on NIU and Toledo, or any of the possible adds is the way to proceed. I think your school needs to look for allies in the central time zone to provide a united front. Saying NIU and Toledo provides the same punch as an 87 year old with emphysema is arrogant and not at all accurate. They are very solid football programs. NIU has a road win against Notre Dame this season. Toledo beat Mississippi State at their place this season.
I don't know if the MW will add anyone but there is no rush to decide anything yet. They have 8 members, the money is coming. The tv deal is being negotiated right now. The distribution will not be less after the defectors leave. It might be more.

It was a bit tongue in cheek and McFeely has no affiliation with NDSU. He’s pro NDSU to FBS and he’s not wrong (my opinion here) that NDSU has a better national brand (and probably better quality of football) than NIU and Toledo. There is nothing NDSU can do to stop a writer from writing an opinion piece like that. Not sure what negative impact it could possibly have on NDSU’s chances of getting an invite.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
True enough no harm no foul. I was being more than a little tongue in cheek too. I am not at all gung ho about football only adds. NDSU would not be anywhere near the top of my personal list for add ons. I think you have a fine school and a fine program but I favor a smaller footprint.

Makes sense. Bigger footprint is the direction college football is heading, fwiw.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
It does appear that is the plan with many conferences. It hasn't happened yet with the MW.
