It really depends how many existing PAC members stay and how many leave.
PAC will backfill with the best of the MWC/AAC teams I suspect.
Will likely end up with a contract somewhere in the ballpark of $10-25m/yr, depending on membership.
It will still be seen as a step above the G5, but the gap will close a little bit.
This all presumes PAC doesn't pull a rabbit out of their hat on the media deal, in which case most members may stay.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
This morning’s PAC meeting concludes without an announcement on TV deal.
Ostensibly the presidents at least got information on where the negotiations are at and schools probably know where they stand on going or staying.
Arizona’s Special BoR meeting for this afternoon will go straight to executive session.

ASU's BOR has scheduled a meeting for later today as well.
Supposedly they saw data (three plans) and adjourned without resolution.
The PAC9 will be the PAC_ (fill in blank) by week's end.

Are they the same BoR? I’m confused by the website.

By weeks end, 8 as Arizona appears out the door. However, Washington and Oregon have to be begging B1G at this point......and Utah has to be looking B12. B12 is going to be truly back as a power football league when the dust settles. I bet they regret the G5 teams they took, but it bought them stability and the time they needed.

My impression is they've been begging them since USC/UCLA happened. Imagine if they get 'stuck'
Oregon has deep pockets and could probably weather it better than UW.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Yeah didn’t take much inference to figure that P12 commissioner was just playing chicken with the end of the current media deal. Trying to get too far down river for any schools to jump before they’re required to sign their souls away to a mediocre agreement.
Colorado was the first to call him on it and when other schools saw that they quit with the kumbaya and started asking the tough questions.

From a football standpoint the Big 12 will still be at least a notch (likely several notches) below the B1G and SEC. I don't even think they'll be at the ACC's level since I'm not sure there's any schools in the Big 12 that have the same level of commitment to football that schools like Clemson, Florida St, and Miami do in the ACC. The Big 12 will be a fantastic basketball league though, especially if Arizona joins, and considering they were on the brink of falling into obscurity twice (once in 2010/2011 timeframe when they lost a bunch of schools and again when Texas and OU announced they were leaving last year) they've done a nice job re-establishing themselves as a power conference.

Florida State and Clemson won't be in the ACC by week's end, though.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
All of this shit because the richest and most prestigious conference couldn't just tell USC and UCLA to get lost. I can't wait for those programs to join Nebraska at the bottom of the Big10

On the one hand, all this shit is likely how our ticket gets punched.
On the other, would like to see just one MWC team leave and be replaced. If PAC falls apart and swipes all the best MWC teams, that conference won't be what it was before.

If you're implying USC/UCLA went to the B1G I believe you have it backwards: the B1G went after them because they're the only thing available that is worth more than a B1G share (after OU/UT were gone). UW/UO or FSU/Clem aren't worth full shares.
But yes, USC will be "Iowa" and UCLA will be "Minnesota" at best.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I have exactly 0 tears for schools and conferences who, in the name of TV money in the first place, excluded deserving teams from their subdivision and division only to consolidate money and power. I’m only cheering it on because what it may likely mean for NDSU, but I ain’t exactly lighting a candle every night for the PAC 12 either.
The P5/G5 structure was great, but it was the same structure that held a more than deserving NDSU in FCS.

Do you know if NDSU has made any applications to join an FBS conference ? I believe that has to be the first step. I don't think conferences can approach a school first. Any number of FCS schools have moved up over the last few years so I don't think there is organized structure to keep FCS schools out.

Why can't conferences approach first?
I'm pretty confident every conference commissioner has heard of NDSU. No need to shout from the rooftops.

Tampering. Conference members are under contracts with each other.
I am sure there are backdoor channels and lots of nefarious wheeling and dealing but officially the schools have to approach first.

Also USC gets them one step closer to their great white whale, Notre Dame.

Agree with most of this.
I'm selfishly not rooting for MWC to be torn apart, because I want it to maintain most of its current power and prestige at the G5 level, and not be viewed as a FCS level conference like CUSA is now. If MWC becomes over half Big Sky/MVFC, it will lose some of its luster and potentially the media deal as well.

I don't think either of us are lawyers, but this makes no sense. One of the prime traits of competition is making offers against existing contracts. If a conference said something like "join us or none of us will schedule you again" you might have a case. But if they say "exercise the exit clause of your contract, join us, and we'll pay you more than you make now", that's literally how business works.
Take the recent Colorado move. The Big12 voted to accept them before Colorado BOR voted to leave the PAC.

I am sure that all goes on..The school who wishes to move has to approach first. Colorado approached the Big 12 first. The Big 12 voting to accept them is fine and it did not matter if Colorado had not voted to leave yet.
In a lot, if not most, cases the invitation and acceptance are announced together.
But, if the MW approaches your school first they are liable for tampering. If you have approached them first, no tampering.
Of course maybe a third party, say Fox Sports, whispers in your ear that if you apply you have a very good chance to be accepted. That's okay. But, even though I am no lawyer I do not believe the MW can officially reach out to you first..That doesn't mean there hasn't been any vetting going on. They vet all potential invitees. But that is not the same as offering before you actually apply.
Nevada has switched conferences 4 times since 1971 and it was always done the same way. When the Pack was hastily admitted to the MW with Fresno it was okay because both schools had applied to the conference before. Nevada had applied to the WAC several times before being invited. When they were a 1AA school they approached the Big West and expressed their interest in moving up. They applied and were invited. Boise applied too but weren't invited for a few more years.

Pretty sure the MWC could make a blanket statement "now open to applications for membership" as the ol' wink and nudge.

The MW takes applications all the time. They are open for business. They would gladly accept an application from any school. That is why I asked if NDSU has made an application to the MW. It doesn't mean an offer to join is happening, though. It just starts the ball rolling.

I have a contract with my insurance company. I get approached nearly every single day by other insurance companies asking me to cancel that contract and switch to them. Is that tampering?
Sorry, but unless you can cite a specific court case I'm going to say you're full of crap on this. US law is generally very supportive of competition.

That’s not how it works at all lol. As if President Cook just fills out an online application and emails it off to the conference.
The P5 made their own greedy little beds and now the power grabbing has come home to roost. If that’s what it takes to get NDSU to it’s rightful station in the college athletics landscape, cool with me.

I don't mind you believing I am full of crap..I don't think you are full of crap. You are talking about an individual insurance contract..That is a different scenario than a contract between several different parties. But you can interpret that in any way you wish..I am not sure why this angers you, though.
I would guess, that if NDSU is truly interested in moving to the MW they have already approached the conference..
I have seen numerous podcasters, radio talk show guys and sportswriter saying the MW should add NDSU but I have not seen any indication that NDSU is pursuing an invitation.
Again, that is why I asked if they have made an initial application request.
