Get Hockey to NDSU thread

Sorry if this was answered before or should be common knowledge by now (shows you my interest in hockey)...but why was Mankato left out of the NCHC or whatever it's called?

Just tuning into the NE regional between Minny and Minn. Duluth. The place is almost empty. Maybe a few hundred people there. Hockey is a non-factor.

Fargo already HAS a "local" hockey team. It's called the Fargo Force, and I hear they draw pretty darn well. Or are you not going to be happy unless it is somehow an NCAA top-tier D-1 program?

And we also have D3 hockey over at Concordia. MSUM has been talking about D-1 hockey for years....and obviously can't make it work, otherwise I assume they already would have.

The fact is, there is plenty of hockey in and around Fargo, so what we are REALLY talking about here is competing against UND's program. And for what? An ego trip against UND? NDSU does not need to be everything for everybody. I'm plenty fine with letting UND be what they are (a hockey-only school) and NDSU be what we are (basically, everything else that is successful!).

Junior hockey is where the future is anyway. If I were a hockey fan in Fargo-Moorhead, I would be advocating for a higher level junior hockey team rather than an NCAA program. Leave NDSU out of it.

I've never been a fan of the Force or that level of hockey. It sucks pretty bad in my opinion yet they still pack the house. Shows there is a huge market for it. I could give 2 shits about D3 hockey. People like me want to see the highest level of hockey we can see and unless we get an NHL team or relocate to Canada, College Hockey is the way to go. Would love to see NDSU do it. I have no interest in watching the Dragons play D1 hockey. I'm really not a fan of any hockey team outside of the Wild and it took me a few years to get over the bitterness of losing the north stars. Love hockey and NDSU. Would be awesome to have a team to root for other than UN_ losing. (and no i wouldn't want to see it unless they can raise enough money to increase basketball spending dramatically (like paying our coach 300K) and football and pay the stipends)

Especially this time of year with the NCAA basketball tournament taking over the networks and viewership.

I would rather pay our current coaches more to keep then try and start a new program. The people of Fargo do not support NDSU hockey. There are too many UND fans for one. Also, the people of Fargo voted down an expansion to the dame years ago that would have been the home of a potential NDSU hockey team. That vote went down in flames by like a 70-30 margain. No way this happens.

I would love hockey at NDSU but it would need to be funded by the fm community like they were trying to do at MSUM. We have got to find a way to pay our coaches better and both should be at the 500k salary and quickly. I believe that Richman was the 2nd lowest paid coach at the NCAA tournament this year. That is unacceptable for a school like NDSU. All of thi is easier said then done though.

I saw no to hockey, the net is too small so you can skate you butt off, outplay the opponent and still lose the game, and it's crazy expensive
