IF NDSU decided to go up, it would not be difficult to join the MAC or Sunbelt. All FCS conferences, not just the BSC conferences, are expanded to form superconferences. All conferences ideally want 16 team conferences, with two eight team divisions. Big Ten has added two more teams: Maryland and Rutgers. (LOCATION LOL) The Sun Belt has added Idaho, App. State and Georgia Southern. The non BCS conferences will be looking to expand for survival. From the MAC and Sunbelt's perspective, (and even the MWC), North Dakota State is an attractive addition. They would be near the top in attendance for football (MAC teams inflate their attendance figures). Our new basketball arena would be competitive and we would have the best baseball stadium in the conference. (I researched this last night.) NDSU would be a great addition to the Sun Belt conference and a good addition to the MAC conference.

Of course, if we just "wait" and see our opportunity might pass up by when the conferences fill up with 16 teams. Then NDSU is stuck where it is at, unless they want to be an independent like BYU.
You bring up a number of good points, and we should be preparing for a move. However you are severely mistaken if you think we can move up immediately. We need to take steps in the right direction for instance building the SHAC will be huge in allowing us to get a FBS invite (because basketball is an important consideration in FBS affiliated conferences). Getting an indoor practice facility is next on the docket, after that we probably need to raise the funds to build a 30-35k football stadium. Lastly we will need to raise a ton of money so we can add 22 football scholarships add a woman's sport to offset the 22 scholarships. Then we will need to increase our coaches salaries substantially. Yeah so we have a few things to do before we can consider moving up. I am not against the move, but if we are going to make the move we have to do it right.

    good analogy there bud.
It's a perfect comparison. Proof that neither provides real national exposure.

Bowl games have been on every might since Christmas Eve. Less than 1% of college football fans could even tell you who won without looking it up.

The MWC is just as irrelevant. It just costs a crapload more.

Oh, BTW, we don't play basketball at a level that would compete there.

Basically, we aren't even close to being ready for a move IMO.

ESPN, CBS and Root Sports sure give a lot of exposure to an irrelevant conference....Meanwhile the MVFC is stuck on ESPN3. Northern your other points are valid but that exposure comment is way off the mark.

Even the MAC would give NDSU a significant amount more exposure.

Why should I care if we only beat two bowl games. Those are the bowls we will probably be in by the way. But I like the way that you went to an easy question on that post but avoided the other harder ones, now go back and answer those hard ones, you know, the ones that make or break the fact that we go FCS quickly or have to wait a while. I still have not seen one person address those issues, all they do is jump up and down that we need to go FBS right now, but have no answers. So all those who feel they are smarter than Gene Taylor go right ahead and impress us.
    From the movie THE PROGRAM

Regent Chairman: This is not a football vocational school. It's an institute for higher learning.
Coach Winters: Yeah, but when was the last time 80,000 people showed up to watch a kid do a damn chemistry experiment? Why don't you stick the bow-tie up your ass?

    Leghorn,
when you and I were shouting at each other "Billy Martin vs. umpire style" last week (all in fun, of course).......what the ef were we even yelling about? I must have been much more drunk than I thought I was.

    Way off the mark? Really?

Other than NIU, have any MAC football teams been on National Broadcasts this year or last? I'm thinking not.

I believe Bowling Green was just on the other night in some bowl game.

Lots of MAC teams have played on ESPN/2 this season...Mostly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you follow Kolpack or Izzo on Twitter, they call it MACtion.
