What recruits are we still going after? Berry, Allen, and a kicker?

Berry has not been on the radar for a long time. Kicker and Allen. Allen sounds still very promising. Just needs to get to Fargo. 2 weeks and he will be.

The SF media is at it again...

Still, there seemed to be an admission on Stiegelmeier’s part that the learning curve continues, and that SDSU’s habit of waiting to make scholarship offers until they truly know a kid will have to be adjusted to this new reality.

Part of that is in reaction to North Dakota State’s scorched-earth philosophy of collecting early verbal commitments, which has encroached into Sioux Falls several times and represents a threat to those programs that take a more cautious approach.

Of course, there’s something to be said for maintaining some dignity and being able to evaluate kids during their senior season of football. And SDSU can lean on the fact that it has been able to win most battles for in-state talent because it is seen as the state’s established FCS school.

That's great news! When the Argus starts puling about mean old NDSU, that means NDSU kicked somebody's ass on the recruiting trail. Apparently, "scorched earth" means "identifying talent early and then offering scholarships." Seriously, using the phrase shows a depth of ignorance that I usually only see on TV opinion shows. Scorched earth? Did NDSU get the recruits they wanted and then kneecap the ones they didn't get?

My only concern is that the Grand Forks Herald hasn't run a similar story because that means UND must be pretty happy with their recruiting class.

Scorched earth? What a pleasant spin the reporter put on that.

Cmon, don't you know we are all suppose to sit around the campfire and sing kumbaya and then go around and each university each take a turn at picking which recruit they want. You know that would be the most fair and nobody would be "scorching the earth" unless the fire got away from the group during the second stanza of Kumbaya.

Ahh the Sioux Falls Argus Bleeder, those college beat writers down there are always good for many laughs.*

Yeah, I edited my first post. A scorched earth policy is where you destroy what you can't use, leaving nothing behind for the enemy. The writer obviously wanted to use some sinister phrase to describe NDSU's recruiting and chose one that he obviously didn't understand.

It's actually a pretty good blog post. Just explaining how the recruiting has changed in the past 5 years. Fans are more hungry for recruiting news and pretty much know they whole recruiting class before it's announced on signing day. Alot different than 5 years ago, when signing day was like xmas and 15 new presents were opened.

Also talks about how are the local DI schools are looking for any advantage they can get to have a leg up on a kid. NDSU's new trend to get out and offer kids in the summer took the other local programs off guard but they will be ready for it this summer. I don't think anybody is trying to accuse NDSU of anything negative, they've just changed the landscape of how recruiting will be done at the regional FCS level.
