It always makes me laugh when people claim this is DI hockey. How many true DI schools have hockey?....Part of the appeal of und hockey is the idea of "little old" und taking on and beating the "big boys" of DI.....funny? Notre Dame Hockey does not equal Notre Dame Football.

The TV thing is a due to regional interest.
This got me to thinking, so I did alittle research. If you classify True D1 schools as being those with FBS football, the answer is 13/58. If True D1 is FBS or FCS football, the answer is 28/58. If True D1 is D1 basketball, the answer is 35/58. It all depends on how you define "true D1".

In my attempt for tallest post ever, I made the following table (I can't get the columns to line up on this paste) Enjoy:

Another side note... Men's hockey has about the same number of teams competing in DI as men's lacross and men's field hockey. That is about 1/4 of men's soccer for example. Some of those also have DII classifications so if you include those it's even lower in competition/interest/etc.

If anyone thinks UND or ice hockey has a National base, then you better agree with Duke and the rest of the ACC that lacrosse has a National fan base. Anyone follow collegiate lacrosse? My point is that they have a very nice regional fan base. Be proud of what you have.....BUT don't be delusional.

Flipping through the channels and caught the end of the UMKC-UND game (last night?). I had noticed several UND hockey games and a football game and now a basketball game. They are definitely kicking our butt in getting on the regional sports networks. I hope we are able to figure out a way to do it.

BTW...UND has some really dorky looking guys on their team.

I watched the UND-Waldorf game looked like it was recorded with an old Hi8 tape then dubbed to VHS then played on tv.

Really? That's strange because that game wasn't televised.

I think 26 may be right.
I saw the link on channelsurfing, but never bothered to click on it for obvious reasons.
