Marcus Williams has FBS talent and was getting serious looks from FBS schools his junior year but didn't have the academics. I'm typing this in Minnetonka as we speak so have some inside knowledge to the situation.
The goph's gave him serious consideration but ended up passing, he went to NDSU and NDSU got a great player and a good kid who just didn't have the grades. As is evident by the fact that he was not on NDSU's roster this year.
There is a reason why he didn't sign anywhere until this summer.
Good answer! Now let me explain this from a moderators point of view. You decided to drag Marcus Williams into the mud for no other reason than to get a shot in at NDSU. Your response was in no way legitimate.
Was the UofM prevented by high academic standards from going after Marcus Williams? No - in your view, they passed on him by choice.
Is Marcus Williams on an NDSU roster? No.
I've got a certain admiration for glibness but it doesn't extend to stuff that smells like malicious gossip. I'd be willing to testify in court that on such and such a date, you were indeed a jackass - would you be willing to do the same about MW's academic record?![]()

Hey, I have no problem with people arguing with me - I'm wrong about 12 times a day. If somebody can point me to a written rule that lays out the U of M's minimum standards for student-athletes, I'll even admit I'm wrong. Obviously, the UofM has higher admission standards for normal students, but my point is that, like the Ivy's, they weigh other talents in their admission standards.
tony, i don't know what NDSU's admission standards so i can't really talk about that but what i wrote is correct, all schools have to go by the minimum guidelines that the NCAA sets but then each school has there own admission standards and are free to set those wherever they want as long as they meet the NCAA and there own conference criteria. Across the Big Ten there are completely different standards for all the schools, Northwestern admission is much higher than the rest of the conference, then Michigan and Wisconsin have very high criteria as well, above the rest of the conference. Every year there are kids who don't qualify for the Big Ten who end up being good players in the MAC. MN and NDSU very rarely recruit the same kids except for MN kids they want to walk on so there is almost no way to compare. As for Marcus, i've been friends with his dad for years and grades we're not the reason Marcus didn't end up at MN or other bigger schools, size was.
I didn't get your point either. Thought you were only talking about NCAA criteria.
Big ten is accepting some borderline kids, too. John Clay a couple years ago had a tough time meeting the NCAA standards. He eventually raised his ACT enough to qualify, then Sconny credited him with having a special talent in order to get him past Madison's tough admission standards.
