BYU has been an independent for more than 10 years..

The MW is not quite the stepping stone you believe it to be.

Marshall and Temple were previously members off the top of my head. UCF was a football member as well.

Marshall went to the CUSA. Not convinced that was a step up. Temple was only a football affiliate. No other full member has left since the 50s. MAC rivals the Big 10 for core member stability.

MWC still looks like the best stepping stone.

Better conferences don't need any more schools with directions or cities in their names. Besides, the MAC is made up of generally uninspiring institutions (otherwise, we would have been invited long ago). So, other than NIU, I'm not sure any current schools have ever sought to improve their situation.

MAC might not have good football schools but they are outstanding research universities. Very well respected academically. We should be proud if they considered us a peer.

Lol I'd suggest looking up the Conference USA Marshall joined, not the Conference USA of today.
