Play callers have one or two fewer plays they can call when they know that it just can't be executed.

Don't know. I'm not much of an xo person but that seems like the place to start to me. And for sure if you are trying to run through the A gap and not getting at least a couple of yards to begin with then there is perhaps no reason to believe you are going to be getting the 4 and 5 in the third and fourth like we used to do, so try calling something else.
That's a very good point. The oline definitely had some growing pains. Hopefully they are much improved this fall. I think another issue was when Zeb started flinging interceptions and putting a young defense in bad situations the coaching staff got way too conservative with the play calling. That doesn't work too well when you don't have much of a running game or very many running backs to speak of either. In turn you're just not putting the team in the best situation to be successful especially on early downs. Too many 3rd and long or obvious passing situations. Just a lot of issues with this spring fiasco.

Doesn’t help when the Olone coach leaves right before season

It's too bad Grey Zabel went down with the broken leg. He was on his way to a very stellar season and soon to be anchor of the oline. Speaking of which, does anyone know how the rehad is coming along?

Not sure on rehab, but can’t be stated more strongly IMO that all of our players need Kramer conditioning. That’s not saying they haven’t been working hard, but the last several seasons of Natty’s/deep playoff runs have caught up to us when it comes to offseason training. Everyone talks about the additional reps, etc., but the smaller calendar to lift and condition is huge, and other teams have had that opportunity. I’ll reference SDSU’s Oline as an example.

Talked to a team Dr. at the FCC. He said Zabel will be OK in the fall.

Who was the last true freshman to start at qb for NDSU? Who was the last Trfr qb to play really well? The last 4 guys all had time to learn the system and had great mentors with the exception of Brock who had no player mentor. It’s a lot to ask of a kid straight out of HS.

Bentrim, I think. Ryan Johnson played a bit as a true freshman.

Considering that transfers are uncommon at NDSU and were even rarer back in the day, we're talking a very small sample size. I thought Staus did a pretty good job. Stacy Robinson transferred as a QB and ended up in the NFL as a WR so there's that.

Yea, so pretty unprecedented, especially with the west coast offense. My overall point is people are being way too hard on Miller. Not that I think he’s gonna be a super stud like the last guys but I wouldn’t pencil him in as a lifetime backup already. Give the kid a bit of a chance to grow.

If I were a UN_ fan I’d want the Bison best qb talent on the bench too.
