According to whom? "I am sorry students but your hard earned money only goes to the "non-popular" sports. Feel free to go to those for free. I am not sure that would fly with the students at all. Plus even if the money is going to "non-revenue" sports, those sports indirectly help the football team for title IX purposes, etc.
The weather in Fargo keeps the undesirables out.....

...Which is why I live near the Twin Cities.

Then how's this for a solution. Take the 63 scholarships for football, only keep 63 scholarships for womens sports (or activities) and call it even? You see, football makes its own money (obviously), women's golf doesn't. Yet you want 21% of the seats in the stadium to go to students because they "pay the athletic fee". You better believe that if football took no money (nobody has still given a single figure as to how much of the football budget is payed by the athletic fee) and the students paid their own tickets (it happens), that a very good number of those seats would be full as is evidenced by the extensive waiting list for season tickets.

What number is that 4000 seats pegged to?

We have one of the best student sections in all of FCS and you guys want to piss all over them. I will just sit back and shake my head and listen to what the know it alls have for a few games a year the students don't pick up all their tickets. NDSU has a very good system in place now, you don't go pissing off the students, you will have a uproar like happened when they tried moving all the student seats a year or so after the dome opened. So much for "student focused".

Title IX is about WAY MORE than just scholarships. The balance includes all resources devoted to the sports and that includes coaches salaries, recruiting budgets, etc. The dollars contributed to the Athletic Department by the students is a lump sum rather than sport specific. Essentially the same as the Team Makers donation which is targeted for scholarships (Team Makers members are not sport specific even though football is a primary driver). Where the 4,000 student tickets comes from must have to do with the capacity of the 6 sections allotted to students (although that seems high).

When the dome opened, ALL of the student seats were in the South End Zone. I had reserved tickets in section 15 on the sideline. The students were right to howl about how they were getting treated and the sections on the sideline were given to them. That got me moved across the field and down. I am 100% pleased with how it worked out.

That is my larger point. It does seem high. It's 30% of the total student body and 21% of the seats. My point is that everybody seems to overvalue the activity fee in the support of the football program.

I'm going to guess that you aren't involved in making hiring decisions.

Something we agree on! I have had season tickets for 12 years. I'm not getting any deal....just because I'm not 65 doesn't mean I should pay more(and I mean a LOT more) than the people sitting next to me.

The thing is if those fans don't want to pay what is current price then it is their option not to. But why make me pay more...can anyone explain how that is at all fair???

Activity fees represent a fraction of what students contribute monetarily to the athletic department. There is direct institutional support to the athletic department and that comes out of NDSU's funding which is largely supported by tuition checks.

$6.2 million of the athletic department funds comes out of the NDSU budget which is largely supported by student tuition and fee payments. Another $1.1 million comes from student activity fees. I don't see how you can completely ignore the tuition dollars sent to the athletic department.

Maybe NDSU should be the first school in North Dakota to have the university's share of the athletic department supported completely by student activity fees. Tuition would go down by $500 and activity fees would increase by $500. It certainly would be better from an accounting standpoint.

Get back to me when Team Makers contributes $7.2 million per year to the athletic department.

That's a little like saying that students pay tuition for football tickets only.
