So you could make the argument that the student government is paying $250 per ticket for 4000 tickets(ignoring other sports tickets). Actually the arguement could be made that if the student tickets aren't used the student government should get the money back from selling them. Just like any other season ticket holder. (BTW I am playing devil's advocate here.)
The weather in Fargo keeps the undesirables out.....

...Which is why I live near the Twin Cities.

Gotta factor in tickets to all the other sporting events at NDSU as well.

I'd be all for removing the part of the student activity fee that allows for 'free' tickets to all the NDSU students on a first come first serve basis and instead selling 'packs' to all the games in a specific sport, such as they do at Wisconsin and Arizona State. When I went to ASU, I bought an athletics pass that got me into all the sports as I saw fit.

That would possibly be a good way to gauge how many student seats would be needed for each season to provide the proper amount of student tickets while also providing incentive for the students to go to the games since they have a stronger sense of 'we payed for them' since the costs are separate out-of-pocket costs.

That may be more motivation than these 'free' tickets provided now where students are more apt to feel like they can take the tickets for granted and not show up.

Yeah, the athletics fee actually go to pay for those sports that aren't making their own money, it's just that football is what everybody wants. If football didn't take any of that money and instead sold a student season ticket as many other schools do (hell they even do it up north for hockey), they would probably see the half that are die hard and clear up some of the season ticket backlog for the public.

I don't think size would factor, it's demand. Those tickets would sell to somebody.

I dont disagree tickets would get sold. I should have explained more, I don't think a whole lot of student packages would be purchased.

No different than ND right now. People bitch and moan about the 10-12 billion in the various rainy day funds, but be thankful they banked it when they had the chance.
Or they will be happy they still have their lifetime fans paying that $800/year you mentioned earlier.

It would be nice to know the true cost to run the department. That would be a starting point for a discussion. Some say the state subsidizes the program millions, other say it makes money, the student's what do they contribute? No one really has an answer and maybe you can't determine it as how their fees are allocated.

All of the information is readily available for those that want to look for it. Every student pays an activity fee and there is a substantial amount of that which goes directly to the Athletic Department. There are also a lot of other things that go on during the year that are free for the students because funds come from activity fees. It's no different now than it was 30 years ago when I was in school. Some students take advantage of every opportunity, some pick and choose, and some never attend activities on campus. I'd be surprised if there is actually a correlation between the above and what they contribute later in life.
