Exactly, how often is a OT going to run 40 yards? It's all about getting off the ball fast, pad level, hands, and feet. If an OT has great feet but doesn't run a blazing fast 40, he is going to be a player. Why do you think a college coach will make the trip to watch a O-Lineman play a basketball game if he plays? To get a better idea of how good his feet are. A huge, huge part of playing OT is your footwork and how quick your feet are.
Jesus, I don't know how more simple to make this. All of the interior lineman were 6'4 or under, except one. See my prior post - this guy is too tall to play guard or center.
All of the tackles ran 5.3 or better, except one (who wasn't drafted. I wonder why). See my prior post - this guy is too slow to play tackle.
And by the way .2 sec.in a 40 yd dash is a lot.
And by the way, quick hands and quick feet come from fast twitch muscle fibers, which also happen to give you a fast 40 yd dash. So, does an OL run 40 yds? No. Does the speed in the 40 yd dash tell you something? Yes, that's why they measure it.
Did somebody here measure this guys footwork, hand speed, and pad level and determine that he is a prospect? The original post suggested that he should be recruited because he was "huge". Being "huge" is not enough. And a 5.5 40 - at 280 lbs. - suggests that he doesn't have it. What happens to that 5.5 when he puts on 40 lbs and comes in at 320 lbs? Is he going to be faster?
Here is another DE prospect.

And defensive end Darius Hammond is looking at North Dakota State and Virginia State.

I'm kind of wondering if it is NDSCS.
This is absurd. We have a couple of guys browing Wisconsin Preps, find someone who is tall and heavy, then tell us he is a prospect, and lecture about what it takes to play OL based on nothing more than his height and weight. I give up. He's a "good get" with great "upside" and "athleticism". I know this because I saw his picture on Wisconsin Preps.
Okay, fine, then how do you explain the 5-star recruit who was basically the same size with offers from all of the biggest of big time schools? His 40 time was 5.47 as Rutland pointed out, or 0.03 secs faster than the guy you think is dirt. So, what's the difference? The 5.47 guy is 2" shorter, is that it? Is that what your point is? Or is it that 0.03 sec in the 40 yd dash is the difference between being someone all the big boys can recruit but NDSU should stay away from someone 0.03 sec slower? Help us out here because we are obviously way too dumb to understand your inside intelligence on what consitutes a 'recruitable' OT. One guy is a bum, the next guy isn't, so please, enlighten us. Please.
