Dome Upgrades

Wow, looks like the dome is pushing forward with many upgrades, including the possiblility of new turf by next year. Followed by new lighting as well as restroom and hospitality buildings for tailgating with an area for the band to play and additional power outlets in the parking lot.

The new turf would be an indoor one-piece roll-out version of the Sprinturf NDSU has on its practice field. It’s a relatively new technology – Northern Michigan was one of the first to install Magic Carpet II in its indoor football stadium two years ago.

IMO, the Fargodome has been waiting for an indoor roll-up system that has actually been proven to work. If I were in their place, I would want at least two years of data to work from. The tray system at Rogers Centre was a train wreck, and the short-roll system used by NAU and UNI is questionable for high-use, quick-turnover facilities like the FD. Magic Carpet II is what the FD was pinning its hopes on, but they needed a couple years of actual use to see if it would work. Since they seem to be moving ahead with the timetable, Northern Michigan must be happy with the product.

For those that were at the Kansas game, it looks like the new FD turf will be the same stuff(or at least from the same family).

Does anyone know if they are going to keep the ridiculous Fargodome logo in the middle? They should have the Bison head logo and midfield, MVFC logo on the 20's and then BISON in the endzones with the traditional logo. You don't need a gigantic Fargodome logo on the field. a small one around the 20's wouldn't be bad, but I do not like the current setup. Also, they should stitch the logo's right into the surface. The paint on crap looks horrible.

Thats awesome! Just as long as there is a HUGE BISON logo at center field! But me thinks that since the dome is footing the majority of the bill, that we may see the same thing again.
