Disclaimer: The information presented here is far from complete and there is no way to tell how accurate it is.
Obviously, this list needs fleshing out so please post away. Don't be alarmed if your post disappears - it just means that I've moved it to the other recruiting thread once I've incorporated its information (that way this thread can act as a quick reference). Hmm, maybe we could keep one post per student-athlete in this thread to hold background information.

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Position Capsules: QB
- Anders Lee: 6'3, 215, 4.6 40, Edina, MN : Star Tribune Metro POY. NIU (Northern Illinois) and Minnesota are recruiting him as well as a number of other schools for hockey. Some highlights: Highlights(Strib) and Highlights (maxpreps)
- Tate Chistopherson: 6'1, 190, 4.6 40, Osseo, MN: Honorable Mention MN All-State. Northern Iowa, Wyoming, and NDSU are recruiting him. Highlights (espn.com)
- Tim Dondanville: 6'3, 180, Springfield (Sacred Heart), IL. 143 of 209 (68.4%), 2,528 yards, 28 touchdowns, 4 Ints - led his team to an Illinois state championship this year running the spread. Got a 30 on his ACT so he's getting plenty of Ivy League interest. He can also run. Highlights (rivals.com)
- Brock Jensen: 6'3, 210, Waupaca, WI, Lead his team to the WI Division III state championship. 93-158-7 1491 yds and 18 TDs in the air, 193-1227 rushing with 15 TDs (note: those aren't official stats, I pieced them together from two different sources). Plays basketball as well.
- Brent Jorgensen: 6'2, 185, DePere, WI. Three-sport athlete. 162-278-9, 22 TDs (58.3%).
- Dustin Lotzer: 6'4, 215, Sisseton, SD: South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year. 2,791 passing yards for 35 TDs - think his completion rate was around 70%. Also ran for 600+ yards. Being recruited by the Bunnies and the Bison.
- A.J. Westendorp: 6'2, 210, Holland (Holland Christian): Offered by NDSU. 226 of 325 for 3600 yards, 40 TDs, 4 INTs, and 1 State Championship and also rushed for 1251 yards. And, oh yeah, played LB on defense - 65 tackles (54 solo), 5.5 sacks, and 1 INT (so, really, his net INT is 3) :) ACT 33! http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=sjqac0Byv_I

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Position Capsules: TE/DL
- Ryan Drevlow, 6'5, 240, Gwinner, ND (Milnor/North Sargent) Has an offer from NDSU. First-team all-state. A big kid who spends a lot of time in the weight room with good speed (ran the 100 in track along with throwing the shot (school record holder) and discus - also a very good basketball player.
- Tyler Gimmestad, 6'4, 270, Marshall, MN Verballed to NDSU over offers from UNI, USD, UND, SDSU, and, according to some sources, FBS school Northern Illinois with plenty of interest from BCS schools. He's big and mobile - D2 schools were recruiting him for basketball. If you watch the video below, you'll see that when he pulls on offense, he is really fast. Honorable mention all-state in MN. espn.com scouting report/highlights
- Ethan Hemer, 6'5, 240, Medford, WI Has offers from Northern Iowa, South Dakota, and Illinois State with interest from Wisconsin (just took his official visit), Colorado State, and NC State. Second team all state, all conference on both sides of the ball (also conference player of the year).
- Cole Jirik, 6'4, 220, Northfield, MN First team all-state and has an offer from Western Michigan and NDSU that we know, all the other Dakota schools, NIU, UNI, and Buffalo have shown interest - the Gophers want him to walk on.
- Justin Juckem, 6'5, 240, Chilton, WI *Verbal to NDSU, 12/8/2008* over offers from Washington State, Army, and Boston College. Wissports.net has him as the #5 *overall* prospect in WI and rivals.com has him at #7! 4.6 40 and a very good multi-sport athlete. Wissports.net article with lots of good info
- Taylor Nelson, 6'5, 230, Minnetonka, MN A tight-end prospect (I think) with offers from Northern Iowa, NDSU and UND with a lot of contact from Iowa State, Northern Illinois (NIU), and Colorado State. Averaged over 20 yards a reception and is an excellent basketball player.
- Kevin Vaadeland, 6'4, 225, Park Rapids, MN *Verbal to NDSU, 6/24/2008* A WR/RB/LB and multi-sport star. I have even less of an idea where NDSU will put him on the field - could be a linebacker, fullback, DE, TE - very versatile. Highlight video (credit to Erik Lofdahl who does minnesotapreps.com)
- Austin Brzezinski, 6'4, 200 Amherst, WI Another versatile player - played WR, TE, and RB but is listed as a TE on most recruiting sites. Good speed (4.6 40) and runs sprints as well as long jump/triple jump in track.
- Caleb Nelson, 6'3, 260, Forman (Sargent Central), ND Played RB/DL in HS so I suppose he could be a fullback too. I'm thinking interior defensive line, ala Gratzek though.
- Danny Leucke, 6'5, 225, Fargo (South), ND Multi-sport athlete, big frame, first-team All-state at tightend.
-

- Josh Gatlin, 6'2, 195, Jacksonville, FL/NDSCS *Verbal to NDSU, 12/17/2008* over offers from UNI and FBS FIU. Very athletic, very fast.
- Matt Kerswill, 6'1, 180, DC Everest, WI Offered by NDSU. Track athlete (part of the state championship 4x100 relay team). Played both DB and WR.
- Bobby Ollman, 5'11, 200, Homestead, WI Also offered. Wissports.net's #33 prospect in WI. DB on Homestead's state championship team.

- Cooper Wahlo Jr., 6'2, 175, 4.47, Woodbury, MN WR. Big and fast.
-
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Changes:
- Added Taylor Nelson
- Changed color-coding
- Moved older posts to the the main recruiting thread
-
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Changes
- Updated the "Interest" section to show which schools some of those players have made verbals to.
- Updated Sam Ojuri's status to Verbal
- Moved Cooper Wahlo Jr from Interest to Offered (Rivals.com has him as having an offer)
- Fixed some typos and correctly updated a recruit to show that he was going to USD not NIU (USD got a recruit that NDSU offered! They have really spanned the globe looking for players, btw, Nevada, Colorado, Illinois, etc.)

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
It looks like Calhoun the big reciever out of Santa Ana CA had a great visit.
http://www.ocvarsity.com/articles/ab...73545-usc-utah
The all-league wide receiver took a football recruiting trip to North Dakota State.
“It has one of the top engineering programs in the nation,” he said in a phone interview during his visit. “It (the school’s location) is not a deterrent at all. … I want to major in mechanical engineering or civil engineering.”
For this recruit, education really does come first.
He was quick to say that he wants to earn a degree that will garner him respect in the workplace.
Powell-Calhoun also has taken a recruiting trip to the University of North Dakota, another strong engineering school, and this coming weekend, he heads to Sacramento State.
All three have offered the 6-foot-4, 205-pounder a full scholarship. Cal Poly SLO, Delaware, Richmond and San Diego State also have shown interest in Powell-Calhoun, Segerstrom’s first Division I football recruit.
As for North Dakota, he has enjoyed the state.
“The university community has kind of a small town feel to it,” he said. “Most of all, the people are really nice. They’ll open their door to you if you need it.”

Hope we can get this guy. 220lb and runs a 4.62. Sounds like big college numbers. I have a good friend that lives in this area and said this kid is a big time sleeper. He is not sure why the big boys were not in on this kid. Could be grades?? But this will be interesting as this is the first kid I can remember we are going head to head against SIU.
I believe we will blow away Carbondale..

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
by my very basic calculations I count that we have 19 verbals. That seem like an awfully high amount, and we have yet to see a QB. I'm kind of worried.

Everyone's afraid to compete with the greatest practice player ever to take the field.:hide: Can't blame 'em, though.

True, according to Hallstrom. http://www.areavoices.com/bisonmedia/?blog=41462
Hallstrom also reports that NDSU didn't offer Engel: http://www.areavoices.com/bisonmedia/?blog=41487

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Add Cooper Wahlo and probably Brock Jensen per Steve Hallstrom. :)

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
And with that last item from the Bison Blog I do believe fellow Bison followers we have our 2009 recruiting class. It looks like we did quite well. Mabybe a surprise here or there still to come but I think that makes the class a well rounded class that hopefully will turn into great players for the Bison. Something in me still would like to see the Sisseton kid added at QB but that is just me.

I was just thinking the same thing about Lotzer, why not offer him some scholarship money and give him a chance. I think he could be a diamond in the rough.

I think it is a really fine looking class, but it may not be complete. Rodney Reagan, a 6'1" 220 lb. linebacker from Chandler, AZ is scheduled to visit tomorrow (he was at SIU yesterday). The coaches may know differently, but there may still be an outside chance of getting Taylor Davis, the QB from AZ, who committed to Idaho earlier. If Davis is out of the picture, Lotzer might be next in line (preferred walk-on?).

If Lotzer was so great why doesn't he have any offers yet?? Especially from SDSU.....I think we are giving him way too much credit...I trust this coaching staff to sign the best prospect at QB. And obviously it is not Lotzer..
-
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
I'd still be surprised if we don't see a couple CB's this year. We don't have young guys there.

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
So Tony, 2- WR verballed today, Kevin Brooks, WR from Houston along with Cooper Wahlo, Jr from Woodbury. Any news on Brock Jensen QB verballing as Hallstrom said he might?

If Brock Jensen verbals as Hallstrom suggests you could say the same thing about him I guess. He isn't listed on any site I can find.
Marlin, any news on this QB from WI? Anybody interested in him besides NDSU?
-
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Updates:
- Add Kevin Brooks from Houston (Westside), TX to Verbal list
- Updated Cooper Wahlo, Jr. to a Verbal
- Added Brock Jenson to the Offer list.
Nice couple hours for NDSU :D
-
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
You can add Brock Jensen to the list of commits per Steve Hallstrom on the WDAY 10 PM sports!

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
I know most have seen this from Hallstrom but great info on Jensen. Something tells me with Mohler and Jensen and all the WR NDSU is recruiting we are going to see some elements of the spread option.
Brock Jensen verballed today, as we sort of expected after talking to him last night....Someday I'll blog about this but the difference in the phone conversations between him and AJ Westendorp was immense. None of us has any idea how these two will turn out as college players, but Westendorp is more highly regarded by all of the football people I've talked to. That being said, Jensen sounded like USC offered him when I talked to him last night. I thought he was going to jump through the phone and try to get to Fargo right now. AJW was, as I've posted here before, very unsure of the whole thing. Again, DOES NOT MAKE HIM A BAD PERSON, but there's no question that one guy is going to come to NDSU and feel like he's the luckiest kid on earth, while the other would have looked at it as an acquired taste.
Jensen says Wisconsin offered him a preferred walk-on, but he told them early in the process that he wanted to find a full-ride offer. He said he's talked to some people that did the walk-on thing and you're fighting that stigma from day one (from coaches and teammates). Says he's 6-3, 208 right now (must look pretty good in a high school uniform), and says the experience of leading his team to a high school state title was big for his confidence. He's very confident but in an unassuming way. Called me sir about 6 times, and very well spoken. Mom and Dad appear to have done well. He had 2700 combined yards last season and 33 TD.
He said he had a lot of respect for Vigen and Bohl because they were up front with him right away about where he stood (that there were 2 guys on NDSU's list ahead of him), but he didn't take offense at all.
He also told me that NDSU coaches have now told him that he is the only QB they plan to take this class, so unless something happens late, it appears that they have cut bait on Taylor Davis, the AZ kid.

I think we'll going to see a hybrid West Coast O this year. One that compliments our qb's strenghts. We need better O line play this year if the qb situation is to get better.

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
hopefully our OL stays healthy this year

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
There are some real athletes here, no doubt. I question 15 D linemen and 9 receivers, though. Unless those kids get moved to other positions, there aren't enough playing spots for them, no matter how good they are. Why waste the scholarship money on kids that cannot possibly play, just due to numbers? There are lots of positions to fill. Watch a lot of these kids drop like flies in 1-3 years as they look for playing time elsewhere.
I know, trust Bohl. He knows what he's doing.

exaggeration.

Hell no. I didn't know how to spell that damn word either. You got my curiosity up so I looked it up.:)

I know, trust Bohl. He knows what he's doing.
Complaining about too many D Linemen? This is the first time that I have EVER heard anyone complain about too many DL! It's pretty much been shown at every level of football, if you can control the line and get pressure on the QB with your front 4, you are going to win a whole lot of games. And how you do that if by bringing in guys like Juckem, Jirik, Drevlow, Perry...and that to what is already in place with Johnson and Boyer, getting Offerman back is all setting up very nicely to have a dominant DL...
