Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
How about this, if we would have played "meathead" football on Saturday, we would have won.
How can people be critical at the same time of "too fancy" play calling and "meathead" play calling?

Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
We're going to be just fine. Tim P. will bring a reset to the program and a new fire.
Hit the portal for a couple DL and 1-2 other players and get ready for next year.

Welcome back bubble screens eh.

Meathead by running your QB on a 3rd and 6. Meathead by running a half back pass in OT2 with the season on the line. Meathead football by EVERYONE knowing what plays will be ran with the revolving door of personnel that is coming on the field. Meathead football by NO clock management. The list goes on and on

Defense and recruiting wins championships. That's where NDSU needs to improve the most. After that, special team's coverage.
Complaining about clock management and whatever this meathead garbage is supposed to be? Seriously? When NDSU can't win a game without scoring 30+ points a game, it's pretty obvious where the most improvement needs to happen. Get some new material, guys.
Also, like Ross Uglem, I have noticed that UND's OL coach has been doing a really good job... do what it takes to get that guy.

He’s done a really good job as an OL coach but he has ties to Polasek so that’s a deal-breaker for some. Server that waited on Polasek at Atomic Coffee this morning is also facing disciplinary actions I’m told.

We did pick up a CB in the portal last year, Sheppard. Unfortunately most people were not impressed with his contributions. Can't say Entz didn't do at least part of what you suggested.

Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
I really hope we get back to owning both lines of scrimmage. In our most dominant years we destroyed the other teams in the trenches. I feel we have really lost that on the defensive side. Get back to being nasty, stopping the run and getting pressure without needing to blitz.

Yes, this is the way!

Thanks Tony. I will shut up about that. Since I have noticed over the years you are an ELITE football mind I will shut up about it now. Thanks for the eye opening.

I couldn't agree more with this. When we beat KState and Iowa it was because we were as good as them in the trenches which allowed our discipline and complimentary style of football to overcome the talent gap at the skill positions. Having FBS level line play is what made NDSU as dominant as they have been. It is capable of masking some other deficiencies elsewhere on the field.

Agree. That is a very good point.

I remember talking with Iowa fans at our hotel the night before the game. They were asking us how we thought the game would play out. We told them that we felt like if our DL could get pressure without blitzing and our OL could get push enough for us to pick up some first downs running the ball that we would keep it close and have a chance to win. We acknowledged that they had better WRs, TEs, DBs etc. but the gap wouldn't come into play as much if we could compete in the trenches. When we saw the same fans after the game they commented on how accurate our assessment of things were. Iowa fans know good OL/DL play as that is how they have built their program as well. They were very impressed with how stout NDSU was at the point of attack.

Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
Pretty clear listening to the introductory presser that Polasek is fired up to the thousandth degree for this opportunity and also pretty clear that he and Roehl have a very close relationship - he had a hard time getting words out talking about how he knew there was a guy here that was really special to him that also wanted this job.

Completely agree....passion he has for this program and sincere appreciation for this opportunity was apparent. It seemed to me like he wanted Tyler to get the job as much as he wanted it himself. Makes you wonder if he is going to try and keep him around...

The way he keeps referring to "the staff" makes me believe he's trying to retain pretty much all the coaches but no one has asked him specifically about it yet.
-
Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
Sounds like Tim Polasek wants to maintain continuity and wants to retain players who want to be here and a part of our culture.
Recruitment is turning into Roster Management. Sound like he understands the current dynamic of transfers and player mobility.

The way he talked about the someone on staff wanting the job and talking about retaining staff makes me believe TR is looking at other opportunities. Maybe I read that wrong but that's what I saw. Lots of emotion coming from him in those comments.

Yeah, he's definitely not planning to retain everyone. Made it clear the focus is on the early signing day right now but that he hopes to have his staff solidified by the end of the calendar year. He astutely pointed out when asked about retaining coaches for continuity's sake that if continuity was the priority he wouldn't have been hired.
-
Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
You cant listen to Polacek talk without getting fired up. His emotion and passion for the program is immeasurable. Looking forward to seeing him lead this program.

Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
Coach mentioned that Craig Bohl was taking on a different role? Is he not retiring or is head taking an ad somewhere?

you definitely don't want coaches leaving before the early signing day lol.

I heard he was interested in leading the coaches association or something.

Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
He wasn’t shy about speaking on certain things and I was impressed that he answered and mentioned several elephants in the room so to speak. His passion came through. Excited for what is to come for Bison football.

Rumor is he's on track to be the next executive director of the American Football Coaches Association...

One thing that I heard him say that perked my ears up, he mentioned the word screen pass!!!

Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
I just have a hard time thinking that if you’ve been a contributing player this year your situation will be improved by leaving. Stick it out. Those who stay will be champions.
I’m probably naive and a little biased, but I really loved what I heard out of Polasek today. Enough emotion to know that this truly is special to him and he’ll treat it as such. He gon’ take care of these kids.

Yep; he has always been very active in the group, even when at NDSU. I've always had the impression he was very well respected, even at the highest circles when folks talked about his work there.

Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
I'm looking forward to the new (but not really new) perspective from Polasek. Clearly that status quo wasn't working or nobody on Bisonville would have been complaining all year long.
-
Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
He's passionate about this program and has worked hard to get where he is. He was good recruiter when he was here and I feel like players like him when he was the OC. He knows what it took to get us to where we were, not long along. He's direct and honest, which can come off as being a dick to people who don't appreciate direct honesty.
Expectations will not change, whoever is on the staff and the roster. I'd have been more than fine with Roehl, and I'm more than fine with Polasek. Now lets get to work and get back to the top of the mountain.

Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
Wish there was a better link than Facebook but this gives a small bit of insight into Polasek meeting the team.

Agree with most of this, hope he gets the lines and special teams back to dominance. Still worried he'll stay long enough to see this thru but gonna support him while he's HC.

Re: Welcome back HC Polasek
Says working with Teamakers and the Collective a necessity. I think Polasek is a realist and knows how to cut to the chase in what needs to be done.

Agreed and you can tell from that press conference that he speaks his mind and speaks the truth as he sees it. Seems less worried about what others think and has conviction in what he believes.

I am curious what his take is on facilities. In his eyes, how do we stack up vs the G5 and where are we lacking? The same with support staff and institutional support. In his presser he said that was a low priority right now which I get.

Ah, let's see. More PC = Bullshit. There's no such thing. Any hire is a compromise including this one.
I learned today that back in 2018 this candidate lost the job to Matt Entz. As of 2023 will he be an improvement? Only time will tell. But "ideal"? GTFOHWT.
