Probably, maybe not. But the conversation wasn’t about if it will happen, it was about which is the better setup.
Which ultimately is the problem with these endless circular arguments. There’s two separate discussions getting muddled into one.
Which is preferable if we were given the option, and will the opportunity ever come up?

It’s all kinda sports talk semantics, at the end of the day there’s a MW and a MAC team playing on NYE. That much can’t be argued. Neither can the fact that both teams would be better competition for us than Montana State, the game will be better attended, the location is better and the tv ratings will be higher.
Well, San Diego state did play the conference USA champ in the Frisco bowl game, and that champ is higher ranked than the directional Michigan team per sagarin. Would I go see a NYE game of NDSU against a directional Michigan team…probably not. It would probably have less attendance than the NDSU Montana state game too.
I did go to meaningless bowl games in Ft. Worth when I lived in DFW because they were giving free tickets away at the base in Ft Worth because otherwise the stands would have been empty.

I certainly agree that a majority of the bowl games are stupid. The whole system is not ideal (neither is FCS, FWIW), but I feel it’s where our peers are.

I don’t believe you’ll see a NY6 Bowl with two G5 teams. That is basically reserved for the top G5 if one makes it and a top P5 team.

Following the 2010 season WAC champ Boise State played MWC champ TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. Still a big deal for those schools but it said “you kids have fun at the kid’s table” to me.

Not like it’s gonna be a regular occurrence though. I think in the years two G5 teams do qualify for one of the major bowls they will be pitted against each other like in that game. Maybe the CFP has some rules about it I’m not aware of though.

Nachos and Mt Dew are really the only things they sell that I find palatable. But yes, usually due to drunk munchies

Ok so during what was the BCS and before the P5 was officially a thing. That was way back when USF was like 2 in the country. Same timeframe.

It will be rare that 2 G5 teams do make into the NY6 games, just saying it is definitely possible. It could've happened this year had BYU not stumbled against Boise and finished undefeated. Pretty good chance they would be playing in the Peach Bowl instead of Michigan State.
In the event 2 G5 teams would make it (and 1 isn't in the CFP) my opinion is its very likely those 2 teams would be paired up in their bowl game like Boise St & TCU were in 2009.
