Brock Jensen verballed today, as we sort of expected after talking to him last night....Someday I'll blog about this but the difference in the phone conversations between him and AJ Westendorp was immense. None of us has any idea how these two will turn out as college players, but Westendorp is more highly regarded by all of the football people I've talked to. That being said, Jensen sounded like USC offered him when I talked to him last night. I thought he was going to jump through the phone and try to get to Fargo right now. AJW was, as I've posted here before, very unsure of the whole thing. Again, DOES NOT MAKE HIM A BAD PERSON, but there's no question that one guy is going to come to NDSU and feel like he's the luckiest kid on earth, while the other would have looked at it as an acquired taste.
Jensen says Wisconsin offered him a preferred walk-on, but he told them early in the process that he wanted to find a full-ride offer. He said he's talked to some people that did the walk-on thing and you're fighting that stigma from day one (from coaches and teammates). Says he's 6-3, 208 right now (must look pretty good in a high school uniform), and says the experience of leading his team to a high school state title was big for his confidence. He's very confident but in an unassuming way. Called me sir about 6 times, and very well spoken. Mom and Dad appear to have done well. He had 2700 combined yards last season and 33 TD.
He said he had a lot of respect for Vigen and Bohl because they were up front with him right away about where he stood (that there were 2 guys on NDSU's list ahead of him), but he didn't take offense at all.
He also told me that NDSU coaches have now told him that he is the only QB they plan to take this class, so unless something happens late, it appears that they have cut bait on Taylor Davis, the AZ kid.
I think we'll going to see a hybrid West Coast O this year. One that compliments our qb's strenghts. We need better O line play this year if the qb situation is to get better.
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
hopefully our OL stays healthy this year
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
There are some real athletes here, no doubt. I question 15 D linemen and 9 receivers, though. Unless those kids get moved to other positions, there aren't enough playing spots for them, no matter how good they are. Why waste the scholarship money on kids that cannot possibly play, just due to numbers? There are lots of positions to fill. Watch a lot of these kids drop like flies in 1-3 years as they look for playing time elsewhere.
I know, trust Bohl. He knows what he's doing.

It's a double "g"
exaggeration.
Am I being a smart-ass?
Hell no. I didn't know how to spell that damn word either. You got my curiosity up so I looked it up.:)

Regardless of how you want to spell it, the numbers come out of Kolpack's blog. http://www.areavoices.com/bisonmedia/. See the post on 1/29 at 11:48 pm.

When Hallstrom said NDSU has verbals from nine wide receivers and fifteen defensive linemen, he was exager... exajer... exaggerr... um, using hyperbole for humorous effect.

What's the real breakdown per position?

Complaining about too many D Linemen? This is the first time that I have EVER heard anyone complain about too many DL! It's pretty much been shown at every level of football, if you can control the line and get pressure on the QB with your front 4, you are going to win a whole lot of games. And how you do that if by bringing in guys like Juckem, Jirik, Drevlow, Perry...and that to what is already in place with Johnson and Boyer, getting Offerman back is all setting up very nicely to have a dominant DL...
