Reality is SEC/B1G are the two ton gorillas and often get their way, even if its against the self interests of other members.
The reality is the B10/SEC are well on their way to creating their own super league, which has been obvious for years and openly public for weeks now. Not sure why the G5 would placate the schools that are literally trying to ruin them and hoard all the money while they’re at it. Like most power struggles, the big boys would have you believe that the only way the system can work is if they’re allowed to siphon a ton of money off the top, and that at any moment they could take their ball and go home and be better off. Truth is they need to be a part of a national system, lest they become the next XFL.
Unless presidents at G5 schools are trying to jockey for a cush VP position at one of those schools, I’d believe that lol

Re: A new and better FBS thread
NIU and Toledo would mean 10 football schools. If there is no deal to be had there, they would likely add one more school. However, 8 is a little clunky but for decades it was the Pac 8 and the Big 8 conferences. It can be done.
I really like 9 for all sports..It works really well.

Not sure whats being said behind closed doors, but it is pretty clear the P2/4 have all the leverage and are setting the rules. They are the ones that took away the 6th CFP autobid and shrank it to 5 autobids for this year. The other G5 conferences had veto power over that change, yet approved it against their own self interest. They must have been either promised something or threatened to go along with that. Now they will be competing with a rebuilt PAC for only one autobid. ANY of the G5 conferences could have stopped that change contractually, but they caved to what P2 wanted. It's a pattern in FBS.

And it gets worse in '26, with BG10 and SEC upping their take and reducing everyone else's (https://frontofficesports.com/cfp-ag...%20and%2010%25) and with them arguing for more playoff spots for themselves and fewer for other conferences (https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/580...ing-agreement/)

The P2 sure have everyone thinking that they have all the leverage, that’s for sure. What has happened at the G5 and below levels is absolutely pathetic how they’ve let themselves be walked all over.

I am told that none of the Montana and Dakota schools can afford to move up to FBS. The cost is $5 million plus increased scholarships starting in 2025-2026 and NIL. It is @TarletonState and @sacstate for @MountainWest consideration at the moment. @TBM_JY @JWMediaDC @SSN_MW x.com/SH_Sports/stat…

lol, I think it comes across rather desperate and last minute as well.
Will be pretty surprised if this scheme actually works. This is the "pump it up" strategy, and most people see thru it I think.
I believe PAC will avoid fcs entirely, and likely poach from AAC or SBC. Rumor mill says AAC schools not named Memphis are interested.

I think everything sticks together. March Madness provides a ton of revenue and March Madness gets eyeballs because schools you don't know exist (or can't pronounce) win. The other Olympic sports have some fun niches. I don't think anyone is leaving the NCAA.

100% been my thought throughout the entire existence of the idiotic “wait for the split” ideology. People been talking about a split for 15 years. G5 schools shouldnt be afraid to do what’s best for them too. P4 are already raping “amateur” athletics, pillaging all the money and leaving the G5 for dead. What else can the P4 do to them at this point?
Funny thing is, if there ever was a “split”, the current G5 would be more likely to pull up the drawbridge than ever before in an attempt to consolidate resources.
To your point, MM and even a lesser degree, the CFP, need mid majors to be able to think they’re included. Otherwise it’s just a D league. Frankly it already is so I don’t watch much P4.

Right there with you. The CFB greed at the top is a big turn off. Going back to the NFL instead, but sticking with the mighty Bison of course
Go Bison!!

Ah yes. All about the chiefs getting every call and the kickers point shaving for the spread. Good thinking. Chill out. I've been watching the Vikings and Bengals this year. The YouTube nfl Sunday ticket is ridiculously expensive. But we do it for Cordell. He got highlighted and a block replayed on the broadcast last week.

I'm chill bro, even though its so fucking hot outside
I enjoyed watching this big crazy red haired dude last night. Should have won the game. Not a big fan of cactus bread kirk ...
At least the NFL is honest about what it is

Troy was a good team last year, SBC champs. They got raped by the portal and suck this year.
NIL and all the greed of upper tier conferences is ruining college football.

SEC/B1G pretty openly talking about their plans to break away and hoard all the wealth.
Making it clear they don't intend to share like the CSFL plan proposed.

So let me get this straight. Out of one side of his mouth, Snakey says "don’t call up anymore FCS teams because you’ll dilute the crumbs that we already give you", while out of the other side he tells them they will just leave them behind soon. Seems like the dumb ones here are the people running the G5 …

Giving up the 6th autobid was the dumbest mistake I've ever seen. They either had incriminating videos or paid people off.
G5 could have had two slots in the CFP this year. Instead going forward they will have to beat out the PAC to get 1 bid. And it feels like a matter of time until that carrot is snatched away too. SEC and B1G are saying they should be guaranteed 4 slots each

‘Brown reports (paraphrasing)--There are schools who Want to go FBS (infers Northern twins), and FBS leagues who have shown interest--BUT making the "finances" work for both sides is a Problem that goes past the "bounds" of just the athletic department …’
Someone with closer ties to Xtra Points might be able to infer some insight. Sounds like media deal constraints or student fee issues

Media people hound ML about thus topic when Cook is the one that needs to speak on it. That, said multiple sources refuted the rumor from earlier this week regarding finances being the issue.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Right now plans for our game time with SDSU are in limbo because we are at the mercy of the whims of disney. This will be commonplace once we go FBS. This will complicate lodging reservations and choosing flights for the fans. A good problem to have, but certainly an annoying reality of nationally televised games.

Yep. Will always be the case. They constantly reshuffle the schedule if they want to showcase a SEC or top 10 matchup. However, that would apply less to MAC (because most televised games on Wednesday night), or MW (because media deal is not with Disney/ABC/ESPN)
