Convincing the admin isn't the problem, they are onboard.
They could blanket the airwaves with messages about wanting FBS, and it won't change the outcome, other than possibly motivating UND linked politicians to block the whole damn thing.

So to sum up the last X years of this thread. NDSU might be FBS soon OR they might not be. The Bison might be stuck in FCS forever OR they might not.
Go Bison!

“Blanket the airwaves” lmao yall are so damn dramatic
If yall weren’t so busy trying to exaggerate what people are asking for you’d probably agree or at least understand the point we’re trying to make

@WyoNationBlog
Just finished listening to Tom Burman give a press conference about conference realignment. Most other things have been publicly reported here are three things that stood out to me.
Quote:
1) FCS schools are on the board for MW expansion and FCS schools have reached out to the MW.
2) Other conferences reached out to Wyo as a potential landing spot if the MW did not continue as a league.
3) No further talks with CSU have been had about scheduling future games.

There is absolutely no guarantee we land a FBS invite now, or in 30 years. And by the time we get there, it could be completely different and feel more like FCS all over again anyhow.
Everyone wants to believe that if the admin just does everything right an FBS invite will happen. There's just so many other factors at play that are out of our control. The conferences are the ones making the decisions, and the media companies play a role also. If the MW media partners decide they really want us, we will get an invite.
Now is still the best opportunity we have had. If it doesn't happen this round, then we will probably be in FCS for the next 5-10 years.
the problem is that noone knows if they are trying or not. I think most would be happier with "try and fail" than with "are we even trying"?

at least we would know that they are trying, and it could absolutely change the outcome.

"A few" is 100 % correct
I swear fan forum chatter is 99% wild-ass speculation that never comes close to being real
I guess that's what these boards are for lol

For those with more knowledge than I have: Is it true that the G5 (or 6) money would be so much more, considering all the added expenses of FBS?

Revenue is most definitely higher in G5 than even the top FCS. What they don't talk about is expenses. If someone has data feel free to correct, but I'm pretty sure every single G5 football program loses money if you subtract school subsidies. A (very) few FCS teams are in the black. We're one of them, although athletics as a whole is not.
College athletics as a business is a terrible investment. There's a coming reckoning with student athletes becoming employees. I think we'll be on the right side of that, but it won't be easy.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
MTN West in deep discussions with UTEP according to Thamel. I would expect them to be invited and accept.

Revenue potential is definitely there, like Wyoming AD said. I'd guess pretty good odds of going from $2m to $4m a year at least in media deal. It should grow ticket, advertising and sponsorship money too.
Expenses are definitely there as well, and those costs may be pushed up by P4 legislation. I think the number Izzo or McFeely tossed out was the admin is expecting it to cost around $42m per year total. Prices will go up, fans will be asked to give and donate more no doubt.
What I don't know is if McFeely's/admin number had baked in the potential costs coming out of the alston settlement, or the upcoming requirement to fund 90% of scholarships across 16 sports. Some people think the costs of FBS will approach $60-70m per year soon. I don't know if thats speculative or based on calculation of scholarships and paying athletes, etc.

The people that don't know clearly aren't listening, or just assume NDSU should be shouting it on the streets. There's a clear misperception that making more noise would land us an invite. Its pretty clear to me that we are engaged and doing what we can to get in. The aren't going to give a play by play of whats happening, just not how this works.

Literally no one is saying making more noise would get us an invite. He’s talking about fan support. Feel like I have to make this distinction 10x a day

May be a partner to go with Texas St, there was early speculation about those 2 moving as a pair.

A comment to the City, School, and Fans that they are at least looking into the possibilities and evauating our current situation doesn't have to be "shouting in the streets". At this point I'll take a run of the mill half hearted political statement. I get it. I'm sure they are working behind the scenes, but a few words here and there would definitely get dollars rolling in a bit quicker. That I can assure you. Advertising works.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I feel like adding 4 dakota schools and 2 montana schools would add significant stability to any conference. Why not the MW in this critical juncture? Can you imagine these 6 teams playing each other every year, in addition to Wyoming, Air Force, New Mexico, etc? Make North-South divisions if necessary. Would be a lot of fun.
If only the MVFC was already FBS.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Here's a story from inforum from two weeks ago. Matt Larsen is quoting as saying he's had "no contact between NDSU and anything to do with the Mountain West".
So what has Larsen been doing all these years? No contact? Talk about lazy!

Using that term pretty loosely.
Ndsu and northern illinois are basically the same distance apart as utep and tx state. 600 miles. Ndsu and kansas state are also the same distance.

I’ve heard Dom and Kolpack insist that this is because as the AD of the school, he doesn’t want to sour the current relationship with the MVFC. They say that NDSU is definitely “in contact” with MW in other means, just not directly with Matt so he can say ^that^ publicly. It could be speculation on the media’s part, but they seemed pretty confident this is what was going on.
Could be (again) me trying to be overly optimistic, but this makes sense to me.

Today's ADs are politicians: can't risk alienating any constituency.

LOL, like Matt Larsen hasn't already alienated 2/3 of Bison fans by doing nothing/saying nothing.

Touche.
Looks like UTEP to MWC is real; same for Gonzaga to PAC. The big college sports reporters are Twi/X-ing it.

I feel like ML has put far too much stock in a couple of constituencies, the MVFC and the old guard TeamMakers. I want to be clear that those have been and are still important to Bison Athletics but if decisions for the future are being based largely on those constituencies, Bison Athletics does not have a future greater than the status quo.

Seriously...Tarleton State.
Ross Dellenger
@RossDellenger
The Mountain West has held deep and serious discussions with FCS Tarleton State, sources tell @YahooSports
. MWC needs one more full member to qualify as a conference.
Negotiations between the Texas-based FCS school and the conference have progressed.

Tarleton, dear lord!
I get that Texas market is hot, and Tarleton has money and is growing. But no way they approach even what Texas St has at the moment. I figured CUSA would pick them up as backfill, not MW.
Not a great sign. Maybe Texas St is turning down MW, or this is a backup candidate if they say no.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Lol. I've still never heard of tarelton state outside of a message board and I live in DFW.
