It really just depends on so many unknowables right now.
Gotcha, the rub on that is I believe it says 8 full sports FBS members. So for Hawaii to count, they would have to bring all sports into MWC. Does that seem likely? Are the costs prohibitive, or there was another reason they weren't full members?
I do agree they will likely pause for the dust to settle. It's hard to reach consensus on membership decisions when some of the members are still deciding their own path.

Sac St and NM St reach out to the MWC...

According to FOS, the Mountain West has been contacted by both Sacramento State & New Mexico State about membership. Sac St has also been making its pitch to the Pac 12 in which it would constitute the largest media market in the new conference.

Don't know that answer, but would be a little surprised if we've been selling recruits on FBS.
This is what Entz was selling when he was here...

But the long-term future remains on the minds of everyone, especially after JMU’s 8-3 debut season in the FBS this year. Entz doesn’t even like using the term “FCS” very much. In recruiting, he compares NDSU to schools like Marshall, App State, Boise State and UCF when talking to prospects. That’s how NDSU views itself. It just needs to find the same level of competition.
Our coaches are way more bullish on FBS than our admin it seems.

Folks if you think administration is not on board, listen to Mcfeely on Izzo today and tell me if you still think that.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
A good read on the current situation. UNLV seems like the linchpin, along with the pending court case.

They currently have 7 full members..They would need to add at least 1 more full member to be a conference..Hawaii is an affiliate member and doesn't count. Adding you or anyone else for football only would not satisfy the requirement. I don't think Hawaii will become a full member..It was their choice to just be football with their oly sports in the Big West. Much easier travel. They pay subsidies to the BW as well as the MW.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Another element to the UNLV situation. Though they are not a package deal both Nevada universities share the same Board of Regents. If UNLV leaves for the Pac they will become party to any lawsuit. That means that technically UNLV would be suing Nevada. I am not sure how that will all work. The BOR has to give permission to either school to change conferences. The first suit is to get rid of the poaching fees..Win or lose the next one will to reduce or eliminate the exit fees..This will all be very messy..

Yeah, just watched he seemed to present it like if the invite is there and we will go. Nice to have everyone on the same page after the debacle that was Bresciani.

Well, guess Matt was doing/saying whatever he thought would land the best recruits.
Trouble is, if they bought in for that reason, then we truly are screwed if MWC doesn't invite us. Not only would recruiting take a hit, a bunch of existing guys might leave. It does explain some of the transfers like Pheonix I guess.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Appears you're better off recruiting kids with chips on their shoulders, then kids who get told they are fbs talent by an fcs coach.
Marlboro Matt had no fucking clue how to recruit.

Hard to believe then that UNLV would be the G5 front runner, probably even harder now, but maybe the backup can throw

And if UNLV can't find a donor to write that check considering the situation, not many can.

I would think if this situation actually is happening how sluka is representing it, that unlv is a dead program walking. No valuable player is going to believe their nil offers after a star qb had to quit mid season over non-payment.

He’s not the first. They just usually don’t make it to the middle of what looks like an outstanding season before they blow the whistle on it.
Obvious issue here is that for a player to have proof that the NIL offer is legit (aka a contract), the collective needs to provide that while the player is still in his previous team which is obviously against the rules (not enforced, but collectives can hide behind that excuse)
Kids have to commit to a program to get NIL money, but the point of NIL money is to get them to commit in the first place lol. Or “why buy the cow when you’re getting the milk for free?” As I used to tell my mother-in-law

Agreed. Not a good look. Wonder if the 6-PAC is still interested in adding UNLV? Lol.
There's going to be more of this surfacing as some promises get broken.

Either -
A) UNLV, who pays their coach $1.75m/yr welched on a star QB recruit.
and/or
B) A P4 team saw his performance, and stepped in with a much bigger offer mid-season.
The lies and tampering is getting out of control on all sides.
Imagine if similar things start happening during CFP and impacting game results. It likely will, because entire G5 teams were strip mined by P4 during bowl season last year.

At this point in time, anyone who is defending the AD or NDSU Prez is just a boot licker.

To reinforce your point, an entire undefeated P5 school was strip mined during bowl season

I believe they are on board and just working behind the scenes. His comments made a lot of sense. And of course nothing is automatic or guaranteed.
People are just understandably frustrated that this is not something NDSU can fully control the outcome of. We are somewhat at the mercy of what develops out of all the conference power struggles.
We need an outcome where enough MW schools leave that they must backfill with FCS teams, but not so many that the conference dies entirely.
We need UNLV and AFA to leave for better odds. If they keep 7 schools, and only need to add one more, there are several FBS schools they can take from Texas or CUSA to get to 8. Then we have to hope they expand for safety reasons or because the media contract would grow. That could take a while.

And you know for sure there has been no contact? Keep in mind, if the report about NMSU and Sac is true, it was leaked from the schools, not the league. I'd venture to guess neither get an invite to the MWC and SAC has ZERO shot at the PAC. NMSU and SAC are the #1 target in the market they reside in. NMSU "shares" the UTEP market, SAC shares the UC Davis market. UTEP and Davis are far more interesting to the MWC in expansion.
Relax, a school shouting look at me rarely gets invited anywhere.

McFeely said the school thinks they can float a $40-45 million budget, that tells me they have gone deeper into this then just waiting for the phone to ring. They are ready to answer it, that answer will probably depend more on what exactly the landscape of the MWC is. If the league has its act together I am sure we go but if it is like the WAC and on its deathbed, you could end up doing more damage than good by moving.
I am starting to think they don't want to say much because they think UND will tamper with the move politically, not that there is much I believe that they can do but it is exactly what they did in the past.

I don't think so. Players will just hire better attorneys to lock in guarantees.

1. $42 million is the minimum budget for sports. It is doable according to NDSU.
2. The highest offices at NDSU... if a phone call came from the Mountain West that is a phone call they would take. DOESN'T mean they would accept it. No indication it was EVER happened.
3. There is hope NDSU would be able to decide in a short amount of time either yes or no.
4. No chance NDSU would go to PAC-12, greater chance of the MWC folding.
5. The people who need to know, know (Whatever that means)
6. Utah State campaigned to the PAC-12 and got in.
7. The argument of TV market and location is becoming an argument of the past.
8. For what it is worth UND and USD have never been mentioned ... EVER with any commissioner.
No indication that our current admin is on board anywhere in that conversation.

Like you said have let the right people know at the conferences they are interested. Admin appears fully on board from my read. The issue is politics; this needs to be a done deal when it happens so the UND bobos can't do anything.

NDSU does not have full control. What entity on this planet does? Every contract that our company has ever landed has come because we have done our due diligence to position ourselves to be awarded the contract. Sometimes decisions work and sometimes they don't and you make adjustments. My biggest frustration is that ML has doubled down on the mediocre BB program. Lack of funding, renewing coaching contracts and little to no strategic marketing and growth plan for either the football or basketball programs. It was just repeat, repeat, repeat. All recent changes are too late to make a difference in the most recent rounds of reshuffling. That is negligence. Pure and simple. The fact that we have seen some of the most significant shuffling in college football in the past 3 years and we still could be on the outside looking in is testament to that. If we don't get an invite, someone beside ML should be leading the Ath. Dept. Dr. Cook will be judged more prominently on enrollment and budget. If he's smart he finds someone to lead the AD that will make athletics contribute to the desired enrollment and budget outcomes.
