I’m a big supporter of Cam. And that’s not a knock on CP … Cam is a great player/QB IMO. He makes throws that Jensen, Walker and Stick didn’t or couldn’t. Doesn’t have the arm talent Wentz did, but I think he is overall a better FCS QB than Wentz. They all had their individual skill sets.

Agreed almost completely...just remove Stick from the conversation and we are at 100%. Stick just had it all...great talent, and a great leader. Senior year Stick was near perfection.

You don't have to defend this post from me. Nostalgia makes us forget the off-plays/off-days that even great NDSU QBs had. And, in most years, the defense was so good that the offense could win with 21 pts.
Cam is having one of NDSU's all-time great seasons at QB - and for this season to continue, he and Cole are going to have to continue to be playmakers.

Exactly! And this isn't a knock on our D. Problem is everyone else's offense is head and shoulders better than they used to be. They have risen to our level.

I would argue that there are several teams that we've played in the last 10 years that would absolutey shred our current defense. So the D has certainly dropped off.

I really don't see much of a gap between Cam and Stick. Both are undersized and quick with a good but slightly underwhelming arm.
I believe this to be true as well.
I think his skill set would fit in well with several P5 offenses.
My comment was more so discrediting Chapo's meritless argument that Cam isnt as good as Zeb or Quincy and that schools would actually want him to come play for them rather than Zeb's coach turned player situation and Quincy walking on, and not playing, for a bottom feeder G5 school.

I really like Cam as a QB and agree almost all of our problems have nothing to do with Cam. I will disagree Wentz was a better player at NDSU and when we needed a drive to win a game he came thru almost every time (except USD when hurt). I do have a couple of complaints on Cam. He doesn't like to throw a deep ball which would help move safeties away from the line of scrimmage. Also, one thing that Wentz excelled in and Cam doesn't do well and neither did most of QBs when they were younger is find the TE in the middle of the field. As I have watched our run it seems like that throw which takes looking off the safety and knowing the defensive set (which you know way more than me) seems to happen as our QBs have gotten really experienced in the system. Jensen threw so many out routes when he was younger and then his senior year seemed to use the TE alot. Maybe some is scheme, but it seems to me that it has more to do with being able to read defenses before the snap. I just haven't seen Cam excel at this like our other QBs did as they got older in the system.

I'm hoping NI4NI is right... it's hard to dispute that the MVFC has a lot of good QBs right now which makes a big difference. I'm also expecting that our defense will improve. That said, I think you are probably right. Teams are able to run on NDSU much more effectively than they used to and that really helps out opposing QBs. That needs to be fixed.
I went back and looked and in NDSU's 178 wins since 2010 (inclusive), the average winning score was 36-12, the average losing score was 18-28 in the 23 losses.
In the last two seasons, there have been 20 wins with an average score of 39-15 and 6 losses with an average score of 21-34.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
It's been a Jensen-Wentz-Stick-Lance kind of year so far for Cam Miller
Quote:
His 10 touchdowns rank him last of the five QBs but his four interceptions tied for second behind Lance’s memorable zero-pick year of 2019. Put the rushing component into the comparison and Miller’s six TDs on the ground was only second to Stick’s seven in 2018. Lance had four and Wentz and Jensen three each.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
the ENTIRE Big Ten West is in desperate need of a QB. We have two kids who grew up in big ten country. Were recruited at some point by several or most of those big ten schools. Those offers will be coming. With bags of money included in those offers. Hoping we avoid the portal this year. Gronowski has 2 years remaining at SDSU and will have better accolades, so they may be affected at some point as well.

So true.
Name one B1G West QB with any legitimate NFL potential..................................I'm waiting.
Maybe Purdy has potential & maybe Mordaci? I dunno?

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
most of the Big Ten West will bring in two portal QB's. No question in my mind. They will receive standard Big Ten NIL deals. It would shock me if they don't knock on the door of one or both of our QB's, as well as Gronowski at SDSU who is much deserving as well. They can take the gamble. They are full of awful QB's and coaches on the hot seat due to having no offense or QB.

The same could be said for most FCS QBs and it’s what the transfer portal was put in place for by P5 schools. See what kids can do at any position prior to making an offer.

I actually disagree. If ZenZen doesn't get hurt prior to the start of our year, he starts at DE. if we don't lose 4 defensive starters, 3 DB's to the portal, I think we are arguably dominant again/still. Just my humble opinion. Those DB's were on the verge of stardom. That doesn't include Tony Pierce and Kobe. I get it, part of the deal. But, I personally think we are doing pretty damn good and I am excited for this run.

I believe we miss Sigle and Jones the most by far. Our Dline hasn't been great but those two would have made our D much more solid especially early on in the year.

I’d be excited like you if we didn’t have coaches who let a P5 level corner transfer out in favor of first team reps for Jayden Price.

How come I have the feeling that every time Cam completes a pass or runs for a first down on a 3rd and 19 that it's like a dagger in the heart to El Chapo, SD Bison and Alsen.

Even if the Bison have dropped, they were at a crazy high level it had to be inevitable. What they were able to do was crazy. What they are doing now is still really good and should be celebrated. They unfortunately made it look too easy and set an unrealistic expectation for some that nothing less than a championship was acceptable. Even a bad Indiana State team has really good players.

People <can> see what they want to see and not see what they don’t want to see. In that way one’s opinion need not be questioned.

Cas gets it. This team has some issues but the QB play isn’t one of them. QB’s always get more credit and take more criticism than they deserve. Cam’s play has been one of our bright spots. ….This years defense is not championship caliber, it’s average. Our O-line play is not championship caliber, it’s average but improving….I could go on.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Getting guys like Cole Payton to come to NDSU is definitely the main reason that NDSU is the FCS Greatest of All Time.
It's been a Jensen-Wentz-Stick-Lance kind of year so far for Bison QB Cam Miller - InForum | Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo news, weather and sports

That's a pretty status quo stat line for an Iowa QB in this day and age.
Look up the top 10 QB's ever for Iowa. I have only ever heard of like 2 of them.

That would certainly put a smile on many Bison fans faces. A win would be good. A convincing win could be a gamechanger for the remainder of the playoffs.

I don't see why we can't throttle the Cats. Remember, almost all of their stats come from playing in the Big Puffy and look what has happened to Big Puffy schools in the past several second seasons. Go Bison!

I know what you're saying but, that Cats Big Fluffy D held the Wabbits to half the pts the Bison D gave up to em.

That is a good point...and I would hope they would have learned from both of those misses. For example...dont go get an immobile QB that can throw or a running QB that cant throw...need to find someone who is competent in both.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Let me be Johnny Raincloud for a minute. Saw a story yesterday that Cameron Ward (WA State QB, formerly known as the Incarnate Word QB) already has over ten, One Million Dollar NIL offers to transfer. HE'S NOT EVEN IN THE PORTAL. As currently constituted, NIL is nothing more than legalized tampering, which puts all of our guys at risk for poaching. It happened with Grant Nelson, and it will happen again. In my mind, a guy like Cole has huge upside, has learned under coaching that has produced NFL QBs and just needs an opportunity. If that opportunity comes with some cash, it would be hard to blame him for taking it. Every team in B1G West is looking for a competent QB. So...I hope we see increased utilization of CP during the playoffs because I think it's going to be increasingly difficult to keep him around in the current environment.

Double edge sword. More playing time = more tape to entice portal poachers... In the end, nothing would stop transfers anyway in the current environment. NDSU needs to move up the food chain. It will never fully escape the effects of those higher up still taking what they want, but we are too far down the food chain currently.
