Basically all the FCS and G5 schools lose money, they just sort of shuffle around how it's accounted for. Some get more direct state funding, and some wrap it into the student's bills. This fact is why I think the notion of paying athletes large salaries outside of P5 is a bit ridiculous. There's literally no "profit" for the schools, its all subsidized.

If we're going to have a fit of fiscal honesty, only about the top 20-25 or FBS pay their own way (meaning by gates and TV and no university based support).

That could happen but it is looking like maybe there will be no movement at all.

In China? What if you want tea in a glass, iced, or a mug?

That becomes more likely each day.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
There will be eventually
It will surprise people when it happens
NDSU will get their shot in FBS
It will be better that way
In the meantime I will enjoy FCS

Pretty much this. As much complaining as I do about FCS, it’s not that I refuse to watch it. I just think we’re capable of a lot more and I’m not that impressed that a state university is able to dominate the Minot States and Jamestown U’s of the rest of the country.
Winning literally all the time is fun and good playoff games are awesome. Although we’re running out of good playoff games…

Things may slow down on the reshuffling, but the only thing thats constant in FBS is change. MWC will have an opening, whether its this year, or 2025/2026. San Diego St will leave at their first opportunity, they may have just jumped the gun a bit.
Playoffs and Frisco will still be fun. Just wish the cards had aligned differently for our home games this year. Not sure any of those games will be real contests. Definitely need to be alternating the UND/SDSU games.

"It used to be that conference movement was an anomaly," Nevarez said. "Now it seems to be a regular part of business. ... (Losing teams to other conferences is) something we think about regularly and we're prepared for; and as long as we maintain our positioning in the FBS space, in that high level position, we're going to be fine."
The commissioner remains optimistic about the future of the conference and expects to be "among the top six FBS conferences nationally."
Some interesting NIL chatter too
What Sankey wants, Sankey usually ...

I think there will still be movement away from and into the MW..It appears to just be delayed a bit. The league probably has a couple more seasons with this lineup. After that?

This is not insignificant. If CU leaves this pretty much requires a SDSU add to the PAC12. It could also result in MANY schools leaving the PAC12...

Also sounds like the best Pac12 media deal on the table is more than $12M less per year per team than the B12's.
"This cycle of realignment is over" lmao

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Interesting development for sure.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
According to Sports Illustrated, Colorado asked last week for the numbers and was told there were none lol
If that's the case Colorado will be far from the last one out the door. To me a complete collapse is looking more likely, unfortunately.
B12 and B10 played this masterfully.

I tend to hold to the idea that the PAC12 will lose a bunch of schools and will backfill with many MWC schools. If that is the case...

If the PAC12's media deal really is barely more than half of the B12's, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Arizona State and Utah are all gone.
That would leave Cal, Stanford, Wa State and Oregon State. Maybe they can grab SMU, SDSU, Boise, UNLV, Colorado State, and Fresno State and mash a conference together. Hardly a shell of the PAC12 at that point, though. And the four "old PAC" schools would still have one foot out the door if the phone rings.

PAC will survive. I don't believe the nonsense either
Best case scenario for PAC: They lose Buffs plus one. Have to add at that point, no?
Add 3 from MWC and one from AAC, so ...
MWC backfills with UTEP/NMSU + NDSU/SDSU
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
It depends where the 3 possible defections from the MW come from. If they lose 2 California schools they likely would backfill with Sac State or Davis. Maybe even both. No need to add more than 1.

Cali is overrated and will fall into the ocean eventually
Gloria wants CST
It's where the money is apparently ...
PAC will survive anyway tho
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Pac12 will panic and Add SMU/Memphis and San Diego State AAC will add LaTech/Colorado State CUSA will add Tarleton/McNeese/EKU/Missouri State/SFA MWC will add NDSU/Montana/Montana State and South Dakota State. Along with UTEP SLC adds Texas fcs teams

This would just be a travel based decision. Lose two easy destinations in California, you replace them with 1 or 2 easy destinations in CA. It also maintains balance in the conference.

She only wants teams in November-March?
Sorry CST is Central Standard Time so you are saying she doesn't want a team in Central Daylight Time. It's a stupid, unrational pet peeve. Mostly because I live in a state that didn't observe DST for many years thus we were EST year round. EST is different than EDT.

Sorry but you know what I meant
Daylight savings time is stupid, my bad
She wants earlier games and better FB
I don't see that from UC Davis or Sac State

It's funny how some look at it this way and then you got the B1G going coast to coast.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Even a half-share of B1G money is better the way it sounds!
I still see ...
- UW/UO/Cali-Stan going hat in hand to the B1G and taking partials (half?)
- UA/ASU/UU/CU going BXII
- WasSU and OrSU landing with the MWC (whatever the new consortium is called)
-

I remember when they were saying that the Big 12 was done after OU and TX left……. So much for that!

Exactly
Fan forums love extreme “bomb” scenarios
But that’s not how it works
PAC survives just fine. They’ll take Hawaii if they have to
B12 has stated 14 is the goal and they’re basically there
B1G has said they are done for a while
MT/MT State have said they’re good in FCS for a while (no chippers)
Who does that leave?

It does not come down to what Gloria wants. It all gets decided by the presidents in the MW.

there is no chance that WasSU and OrSU go to the MWC. The Pac12 won't die because they have tournament credits, exit fees and a recognizable brand (albeit diminished greatly). The Pac12 will pick who it wants from the MWC and the remaining schools in the MWC will be forced to add the leftovers. How many left in the MWC is the big question for me.

If she's a good commissioner, she wants what her schools want
I'm just quoting what she said
Do you like her as a leader?
I get the distinct impression that push-comes-to-shove, you don't want NDSU in your conference
If that's the case, I'm puzzled as to why you're here

That’s what he’s saying. They would have the PAC name but it would hardly still be the PAC conference. It would be the mountain west with the PAC trademark.
If it’s true that Colorado asked the PAC commissioner for the latest media deal numbers and got told that there are none on the table, Sic is right.
Another outfit is reporting that the best offer on the table is for about half what the B12 deal is, with only one game a week on network tv. If that’s the case, Sic is right.
The PAC and its schools have lost all bargaining power and it’s going to be a race to get into the B12 before they slam the door at 14. Then the next PAC schools reach out saying they’ll take partials to join either the B10 or B12. Even the partials for either conference are more than the reported PAC offer.
I would love nothing more than the PAC to stop the bleeding and grab 4 G5 teams. I guess we’ll see.

It is interesting with how much basketball talking he does he’s talking about Sac State and UCD lol.

Rename the mountain west conference to the mid west conference. Problem solved eh. Easy pleasy eh!

I would be fine with NDSU in the MW. It may happen. I think Gloria is great. I came around here because I am interested in your story.
Gloria was on the Cazzano/Wilner podcast yesterday and she said she doesn't have much power and the presidents decide everything.

I said, "WasSU and OrSU landing with the MWC (whatever the new consortium is called)" ... meaning the whole MWC could be invited to a PAC consisting of just WasSU and OrSU. With 8 westerns going elsewhere in my scenario, I don't see the MWC breaking up, just either adding or "moving" as a group (to new "PAC").
