Unrelated, but why are 100 people an hour or whatever looking at this thread? Isn't it full of repetitive garbage?
ALOT of fans nationally want NDSU in the FBS, our Fans and our Enemies want NDSU in FBS, that's why.

Ha, yeah, most of the rumors right now are completely pointless until something happens with the PAC.
One out there floating around today was SHSU to MWC. I can't imagine MWC getting that desperate for a school with 6k fans.

Fast Forward to 9:00 Mark Couple Scenarios with NDSU/SDSU into the Mountain West. this blogger again correctly identifies NDSU and the CFP as a reason to add for Ranking purposes!

This narrative is becoming less and less accurate. SDSU has definitely caught up in terms of competitiveness but they have also made significant strides on the financial side. If you look at their possibilities to expand athletic revenue compared to NDSU, they definitely are sitting in a good position. They have a nice stadium that is more easily expandable. They are currently renovating their BB arena. Their geography is slightly better than ours. They have better women's and men's BB programs that may open up a few more doors. Their average attendance is continuing to climb. They are building a donor base to help fund their improvements. They still are behind NDSU in fanbase, attendance and donors but they are just scratching the surface with their first football title. If they can win a second one and start closing out FBS victories the fanbase energy is going to grow much like NDSU did early in the run. I'm not arguing that they are ahead of NDSU but to act like they are behind is somewhat naive. The only thing that NDSU has a significant advantage on is booster/donor dollars with Teammakers. Other than that they are every bit our equal and they are building their roster of boosters year over year.

Seriously, I've lived in Portland for 26 years now and I have never known a single dedicated fan of any of their programs. They must be out there somewhere but I've never run into them. I rarely see PSU swag at all. It's pretty weird given the size of the school. I work about 2 or 3 blocks from the edge of the campus in downtown.

Did he also say in reference to NDSU and SDSU "they might not win much?"

Well, I'm not going to think about that guy's blog much. He has as much credibility as I do in such matters.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Is there really a geographic advantage for SDSU? Maybe for schools in Iowa or Omaha. I doubt Kanas would take a bus trip that far and then don't teams fly to Sioux Falls and get a bus ride to brookings?

SDSU is way behind us in the things that will never change, though. No matter what brookings is a shit hole and takes an extra hour plus to get to from Sioux Falls.
It will take a decade to get remotely close to us in fan support and donors. The success of the last 10 years is the exception to their football history, not the rule. Things are starting to turn around for them but it takes a long time for success to penetrate generations.
SDSU is at or near “peak hype” and they’re still not selling out, just able to match our attendance in Frisco for their first championship.
Their brand recognition is 0 outside the upper Midwest.
They aren’t passing or catching us unless we fall off significantly. And if we do that we have bigger problems than SDSU…

Lol do you just come here to stir the pot with people, or do you have an actual opinion you’d like to share?
Here I’ll help you out snowflake. They’ve been eating our lunch on the football field every time we’ve played since 2019 and I would trade mens and women’s basketball programs with them in a heartbeat. They have a good athletic department and they’ve had a great 5 years.
But since we were talking about FBS prospects, I’ll get back on topic with: SDSU has 0 FBS draw for the reasons I mentioned. I think they know it and it’s why you never hear them talk about FBS and/or dismiss when other people do. They will go FBS when 1 of 2 things happen: NDSU goes FBS or pigs fly. Sorry if that hurts your feelings lol

Not sure how SDSU is at near or peak hype yet either. We'll probably learn a bit more about that in the next few years.

Fair enough but they are 180 miles further south than us. How much that matters is debatable.

I agree. I think SDSU’s fanbase is in a similar stage as NDSU’s was in the 80’s. Further sustained success is going to have a positive impact. There are a lot more young kids in SD growing up being Jackrabbit sports fans. That wasn’t really the case when I was a kid. It’s noticeable.

It may have a little impact for recruits in Omaha or Kansas City. A little shorter drive for their family to attend games.

I was talking more about conference affiliation but I guess recruiting would apply as well. I acknowledge that their geography isn't vastly better than ours but I was just trying to show that SDSU is every bit NDSU's equal in a lot of ways. In my opinion there isn't this huge gap and I also believe that they have done a good job of setting themselves up to grow even more.

False. NDSU/Fargo is 250,000 pop and add in Western Minnesota & ND NDSU is a Giant.
SDSU/Brookings is like having a college in Fergus Falls. SDSU will die suddenly, I actually give them props for doing so much with so little.

Agreed with that. In the big scheme of things, they are much more similar than different. I know that's hard for many Bison fans to admit. Same with the school north of Fargo.

Yes, but again the areas where we are different are areas that will take a long time to change. Brookings, outdoor stadium in SD, alumni/donor/fan base/etc. In terms of SDSU’s appeal to a potential FBS conference, they are not where we are at. That is just a fact.
That is where this conversation started and now it’s getting twisted into “NDSU fans are scared of SDSU”. SDSU has had a better football program than us for the last 3 years in my opinion but that doesn’t mean much in the FBS conversation. NDSU has a better football program than some P5 schools and yet here we sit.
For the reasons I stated, I truly don’t think SDSU is going FBS before NDSU. It is very likely that the XDSUs move up together, as like you said they are similar schools and both fit the profile of a G5 athletic department.

If NDSU gets some weird claim on NW Minnesota then surely it follows that SDSU gets some weird claim on SW Minnesota?
Regardless, neither NDSU nor SDSU are in any sort of position claim some sort of "Giant" status. Nor will either ever become one.

Total anecdote here, but I knew a bunch of people in SW MN, basically in Brookings’ backyard, and they were all Goopher fans. Fwiw…

My anecdote was similar. Went to a dorm friend's hometown for the weekend, and half his friends were SDSU guys. Though all of them (ndsu and sdsu) liked the Gophers.

This map from a NY Times article from almost a decade ago with a fan map based on social media shows the Gophers dominating most of outstate Minnesota except the NW Corner. I can't access the whole article to see who is in western ND. Here's a link to the full article if you have a subscription: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...l-fan-map.html

Based on your (flawed) interpretation map, Montana State should probably be D2. Michigan State should be in the Summit League, etc.
SDSU no doubt has a substantial presence in western (particular SW) Minnesota. Pretending otherwise is just silly.
