Won't be long and we can watch NDSU play Indiana State in front of their 10 fans. At least there won't be any games in Macomb this season.
Sad thing is I would get hyped for JMU and GSU, their fans were great and made the whole run up to playing them fun. I go on twitter and I see fans still clinging to how great the FCS playoffs are, not sure what exactly is so great about laying waste to some scrub team and then having a likely MVFC rematch and then a game with a Big Sky team. It isn't any better than some meaningless bowl at this point.

Good news. I was Traveling last weekend and was able to fall asleep to 2 MWC games on TV. The excitement level doesn’t stop at MVFC games, but at least it was 11 pm instead of 4 pm.
And the JMU or GSU rivals don’t exist without FCS playoffs. Good grief.

They won't exist at all anymore, just more Valley rematches and some Big Sky games. That is what the FCS playoffs will be. Any school with a fanbse outside of the Big Sky and MVFC has left.

Yup NDSU deserves a FBS fanbase & environment.
Frisco last year was incredibly sad.

Frisco is a blast, you're probably not kickin it with the right people ;)
Semifinals are a blast too. That -10 tailgate is always a highlight. Everything that happens before that is pretty forgettable though.
Would trade it for 11+ FBS games every year

What exactly was sad about it? MSU brought a lot of fans, if their QB stays healthy it's probably a better game. If you want to talk about sadness the first and second playoff games were pretty sad I guess. JMU game rocked.

Were you even there last year?

Re: A new and better FBS thread
yea it was all NDSU snowbirds there from Arizona that drove over, like all 70s and 80 year olds.
there was no bar scene like there was the first 3-4 years of Frisco.
NDSU deserves to play in bigger stadiums vs bigger teams
USD had legit 6300 fans. maybe
Indiana State will have 2400 & 2 2022 Ford F 150s on the 50 yard line FFS.

The same 70 and 80 year olds that don't care about FBS and have deep pockets.

yup, those hoopl-ites just think Frisco is the greatest athletic event ever dontcha know.
it was like Norske-Fest South.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Always a good plan to shred the deep pockets fans who have been going to games since the 60-70s.

Why would anyone throw in the towel on NDSU to FBS at this point? The NCAA hasn’t even finalized the criteria for qualifying. Nothing will happen until 2023 at the earliest
Lots of BS in this thread …

We've been hearing this sort of messaging for the last 6-7 years. It is what it is.

Well, there have been a few of us who have been saying for a handful of years now that we should be trying to start things in motion (essentially where it appears we are now). Now we're frustrated because it appears we are late to the game and probably a dollar short.
It started hitting the fan during COVID when people saw that half the schools were fine with not even playing a season. Another half were fine just canceling games all willy-nilly. It showed a lot of people that weren't super into the workings of FCS that there's a lot of schools at this level that just really don't care.
The cherry on top for what I would guess is everyone else is when JMU and SHSU bailed. Even those here trying to play contrarian about going FBS admit that it should and is going to happen someday.
Every season I hear more and more stories of "why would I donate? why would i renew my season tickets? why would i drive to fargo for that game? etc." so yes, I honestly do think we need it sooner than later. It's too bad it's taken this long

More like 4-5 years ago but I believe that has everything to do with the expansion of Frisco and more fans comfortableness with the area to spread out more. Same number of fans spread across 4-5 times as many establishments.

Anyone with a brain cell knew spring football was a dog shit idea.
But ultimately it gets back to one thing and one thing only. And that one thing is never going to change. I’m addition, if y’all won’t acknowledge there will be more conferences changes in the next 2-3 years that will be beneficial for NDSU (minus the obvious issue of the unmentionable)…well I ain’t gonna help ya there.
NDSU will be better off than SHSU there’s no doubt about it.

It's tough to transition from watching a really good broadcast to one that feels so mediocre.

True
Even though we lost, the AZ game was awesome on several levels – visually, aurally, spiritually …
It’s hard to come back down to earth, but a good solution I’ve found is to watch the other MVFC teams on ESPN+ … It’s all relative. FCS championship game on ABC should be high-quality stuff. Win the Valley, get a high seed ...
Sounds like YSU will sell out this weekend, so atmosphere should be good

Well then we're in a subdivision where anyone with a brain cell can tell it's pursuing dog shit ideas. That's kinda the point.
99% of people in this thread understand the reason why it hasn't happened yet and why it's difficult. My response was mainly to the "need it now mentality" part of your post. My point is that it's not like we all just woke up 9 months ago and started stomping our feet and freaking out. It's been a growing boil for 5-6 years now for many of us. It's just that now there's a major lack of competition, ebbing fan support, and a general feeling of staleness to the athletic department that wasn't there in the 2010's.
There was a pretty good column posted on FiveThirtyEight about the increasing distances conferences (at least the P5 so far) are willing to jump to add good schools. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features...ll-in-20-maps/
I hope that means good things for our FBS chances. Here's to hoping we wake up tomorrow to some P12/B12 news :)

The B12 would move the meter that’s for sure. Wouldn’t that be something.

Meant it more so as the two conferences duking it out and opening up an avenue for us to MW/MAC
but hey i'll take whatever

I believe some other teams will fill the competitive void, just like when schools like App St and GSU left.
Delaware beat Navy and may be back on track. Montana looks good. There will be others.
That doesn't mean we should stay FCS forever, just it isn't quite as horrific as some believe.
Enjoy the moment, there will come a day where we can't count on regular championships. Maybe soon.

You mean Delaware beating a G5 team that was 4-10 the past two seasons doesn't mean FCS is saved?? Yeah, I have no doubt that it means a team other than JMU will be playing us in the semi's/finals every year.
The University of the Incarnate Word was looking pretty good this year though

Yeah, I mean look at the FCS in the Southeast, it is a complete abyss when the SoCon at one point was the class of the subdivision. These programs are not really getting replaced, we have run out of viable programs in some regions.

Huh. I know an FCS team that recently lost to a P5 school that was 1-11 last year. Funny how that works.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
PAC trying to finalize their media deal ... negotiating with Amazon, Apple, ESPN.
Rumor is once they complete that deal, PAC might be looking to add up to 4 new teams.
The big announcements may have slowed a bit, but the wheels are still churning.

This gets mentioned frequently which doesn’t seem to make logical sense to me. In what world are fans going to show up to FCS games in the future if we are mediocre when they aren’t showing up now when we are the class of the FCS? The cat is out of the bag for the NDSU fan base. The FCS is stale. Us coming back to the pack and not winning championships 9 of 11 years isn’t going to make it more exciting.

What I meant by that is it is unlikely we compete with OSU and Bama when moving up.
We are used to always being at the top of the food chain.
Some of those programs spend more on recruiting than we do the whole football program.

Well it finally caught up to that FCS team having 22 less schollies than that P5 school. They can only do so much with 63 schollies. If that FCS team was FBS they'd be on equal footing. Funny how that works.

Thanks for confirming my point about how useful it is to take one game to make a generalization about an entire subdivision…

Sure, but I’m not sure that is any NDSU fans expectation. The value of an FCS championship isn’t what it once was to NDSU fans. Maybe us fans overvalued the first few and maybe we’re undervaluing them now. Either way the FCS isn’t moving the needle like it was for the NDSU fan base and it likely never will. There are lots of fanbases in FBS who never have and never will compete with OSU or Alabama but their enthusiasm and engagement with their teams is still much higher than what we see regularly in the FCS. Maybe there will be some teams who step up to fill the competitive void of JMU, App St., Georgia Southern on the field. The possibility of programs filling the void in terms of fan engagement and support is much less likely.

Oh snap bro. My kids school first year of elementary football this year. He's a 6th grader and first year. These other schools have been doing this for a few years now and it shows. Got rolled the first couple games eh. Pounced no wins. Beat the undefeated team from Ojibwa 14-2 last night for the first win of the season eh! Boys getting it figured out. Ojibwa had crushed the teams that had already beat us. If happens eh. Why they play the game eh.
