Re: UND post-game thoughts.
The game is fine to be played but it has to be on our terms and in the dome. Certainly not every year but if it doesn't compromise our scheduling strategy and the no namers want come down south for a beating then let them.
I won't lie, I had fun today!

Re: UND post-game thoughts.
All week long, I'd turn on the radio hoping to hear about NDSU football only to hear, time and time again, "UND absolutely dominated the series in the '90s," when, if I remember correctly, if UND hadn't won a 13-10 game in 1999, the 1990s would have been tied.
That's a pretty low bar for terming something "domination."
Trivia: Who was President the last time UND won a game against NDSU by 25 or more?

Re: UND post-game thoughts.
Also, for those of you out-of-towners or those unable to be at the game in person, the crowd was nowhere near the potential 20% of UND fans that was speculated at times this week. The fact is, this is a new era of football, folks, and there are plenty of Bison fans themselves that want to get into that Dome, and can't - let alone UND fans that want to get in. My own unscientific estimation was that the UND crowd could not have been much more than 5% (roughly 1,000 fans of the 19,044) and certainly no more than 10% in even the most generous of estimations.
There were, however, a lot of people in UND gear in the tailgating lots before the game, but obviously, as it turned out, most of those did not have tickets to the actual game itself. It seemed to me that most of the UND fans just wanted to experience a true NDSU tailgate! :)

Bonus trivia question: When is the last time NDSU held a team to less than 61 yards in a game? I'm drawing a blank.

Re: UND post-game thoughts.
Based on the sloppy play today Bison will get beat by the bunnies........sad but true. Whatever happened to the NFL prospect Wentz?

Kind of hard on the guy aren't you......had a couple of certain TD passes dropped. All in all I thought he played well.....like it or not parts of the Pioux defense were pretty stout.

Re: UND post-game thoughts.
We are young and improving each week, still room for improvement. Our freshman look awesome , Shepherd is a stud, Anderson will be racking up plenty of yards on the ground, and our young defensive backs are getting better each week. The future is bright Bison fans!

I'd still like to see a FBS every year, along with one other quality FCS team at the dome.
The dome was electric and if you disagree, well, I'm sorry you feel that way.
However, I agree the second half was boring, but it was pretty much over.
The open video that they played which said, "North Dakota...is Bison Nation" was fantastic buy the way.
Good times!
There have been a handful of playoff games that have gotten significantly louder than today. I will, however, say that today was probably the most consistent the crowd has been loud throughout the game.

Re: UND post-game thoughts.
No doubt we should have hung 50 points or more on the no namers and they shouldn't have scored at all. The second half was quite boring and didn't resemble a rivalry game at all. Just happy this week is over with. I was tired of hearing and seeing highlights about Jim Kleinsasser and Rod Malone getting stopped in the last game these two games played. It was all UND this, and UND that. Blah, blah, blah, talk about living in the past.

Re: UND post-game thoughts.
Quit being a homer.........Wentz has not showed he is top FCS talent this year.

Kolpack's article in the Forum said 1990.

kind of hard to discuss this with you when your argument is "he looked average."
He's been the best player on offense IMO.

Re: UND post-game thoughts.
I have been around since 1981 and realize that the expectations for Bison football are extremely high. Beyond that, they have become somewhat unrealistic and we have been spoiled over the last few years. Three games in and the offense has put up over 36 points on average, but there is something wrong with the offense. The defense has played great the last two games. There is always room for improvement and there certainly was on special teams today. Win by 25 and it should be more. Perfection is never going to happen and some it seems are never satisfied. I think that we have officially become victims of the "Oklahoma Syndrome" of the 50's and 60's where winning is not good enough, it always has to be by wide margins and perfect. Maybe that's the nature of BV.
By the way, go over to SS---they realize with this narrow and sloppy Bison win where they rate in the FCS universe.

I agree. Anything but average. He threaded some balls today. Nice to see him connect with that long one to RJ. Has been overthrowing them this year. The timing is coming along. UN_ defense wasn't bad. Offense was offensive. Terrible. Their D backs missed a bunch of tackles. SDSU is going to be a tough one if the run game doesn't get going. Fun game to be at. Damn it was loud. Playoff loud.

If fans don't expect better how can the players or coaches. We "are not there". Plain and simple. I'd bet a lot the coaches think the same. O line needs to gel.

I seriously doubt we're opening up the playbook in OOC games, especially against teams like UND where we can be very vanilla and win.

We can always expect better, just saying that sometimes the expectations are not realistic.

Re: UND post-game thoughts.
I said this after the Weber game too.... It looks like it is going to be very tough for teams to run the ball on us this year which I think is the most important aspect of a good defensive team. Granted, we have played 3 teams from the Big Sky, a conference not known for playing physical football, but we have given up only 56ypg through the first three. Didn't an old football coach say, If you can stop the run......

Re: UND post-game thoughts.
The video produced by NDSU and shown IIRC during the first time out in the third quarter was one of their best ever. Highlights from several different sports during the D-I era. Kind of rubbing it in that we are more than a one sport school.

Good point, that's exactly what the guy behind me (Bison Country) said.

3) The running game still isn't there. Take away a few big runs by King and it's even worse. I said it last week and I'll say it again: the 4 back rotation is not working.
4) Can we hit a wheel route td in every game? I hope so.
5) Thoughts and prayers for the injured UND player. That looked bad.
6) Special teams would have lost us the game against a team that wasn't so ungodly terrible. Something has to change there and fast.
7) How bad is Wyoming? USD beat Drake 52-0 today and they hung with UND.
8) I like the production out of our WR's. It was a nice coming out party for Shepherd. But where the hell are our tight ends?
9) I'm glad this is over. The game never should have been played and I hope it isn't again for a long time. The media can bitch and moan all they want but the fans don't want this. The state doesn't need it. It's over.
10) Bring on the bunnies.
IFFFFFF we can move the ball with a LEAD I'd be happy....if gonna limit the playbook when we get a lead than PUT IN BACKUPS
I HATE watching a game where just trying to end the game by using the clock without trying to score---its gotta suck for players too to keep their focus on making plays
I'm also pissed didn't cover spread....LOL

1 - I was surprised how few Sundog fans were actually in the dome
2 - I was equally surprised no "Sioux suck" chant

I checked earlier in the week and it was 27.5 that day, so it was a lot higher at one point.

Where I challenge things isn't based on the talent on the field, it is philosophy. I think the players have a great deal of talent, to the point their efforts in the weight room may not be being properly utilized (hopefully yet).
To me bison football is defense via the offense limiting the oppositions positions so bison can be more aggressive on d. Also super clean play and special teams. Spoiled yes, but when there is opportunity I would much rather see a shut out than 40 points scored.
When the team has significantly superior talent i expect a win plus doing it by running the ball and dictating the game. "Taking what the defense gives you" is kinda like letting them dictate what you do.
NDSU will have a tough time repeatedly recruiting super skill positions to attempt and have success with a more open offense.
They CAN repeatedly get punch you in the face, "chip on shoulder" o and d line guys.

Yes.....grrreat video with all the NCAA tournament teams and individual qualifiers (Amy Anderson track & wrestling etc.....)
Weren't Roger Thomas, Kupchella et al sure NDSU was going to fail in the Div I move.....
Also loved the pre-game video featuring highlights from all the FBS victories, Kansas State & the Gophers and all,
given N_rth Dak_ta was so hyping the Wyoming victory......
