Exactly, how often is a OT going to run 40 yards? It's all about getting off the ball fast, pad level, hands, and feet. If an OT has great feet but doesn't run a blazing fast 40, he is going to be a player. Why do you think a college coach will make the trip to watch a O-Lineman play a basketball game if he plays? To get a better idea of how good his feet are. A huge, huge part of playing OT is your footwork and how quick your feet are.
Jesus, I don't know how more simple to make this. All of the interior lineman were 6'4 or under, except one. See my prior post - this guy is too tall to play guard or center.
All of the tackles ran 5.3 or better, except one (who wasn't drafted. I wonder why). See my prior post - this guy is too slow to play tackle.
And by the way .2 sec.in a 40 yd dash is a lot.
And by the way, quick hands and quick feet come from fast twitch muscle fibers, which also happen to give you a fast 40 yd dash. So, does an OL run 40 yds? No. Does the speed in the 40 yd dash tell you something? Yes, that's why they measure it.
Did somebody here measure this guys footwork, hand speed, and pad level and determine that he is a prospect? The original post suggested that he should be recruited because he was "huge". Being "huge" is not enough. And a 5.5 40 - at 280 lbs. - suggests that he doesn't have it. What happens to that 5.5 when he puts on 40 lbs and comes in at 320 lbs? Is he going to be faster?
Here is another DE prospect.

And defensive end Darius Hammond is looking at North Dakota State and Virginia State.

I'm kind of wondering if it is NDSCS.
This is absurd. We have a couple of guys browing Wisconsin Preps, find someone who is tall and heavy, then tell us he is a prospect, and lecture about what it takes to play OL based on nothing more than his height and weight. I give up. He's a "good get" with great "upside" and "athleticism". I know this because I saw his picture on Wisconsin Preps.
Okay, fine, then how do you explain the 5-star recruit who was basically the same size with offers from all of the biggest of big time schools? His 40 time was 5.47 as Rutland pointed out, or 0.03 secs faster than the guy you think is dirt. So, what's the difference? The 5.47 guy is 2" shorter, is that it? Is that what your point is? Or is it that 0.03 sec in the 40 yd dash is the difference between being someone all the big boys can recruit but NDSU should stay away from someone 0.03 sec slower? Help us out here because we are obviously way too dumb to understand your inside intelligence on what consitutes a 'recruitable' OT. One guy is a bum, the next guy isn't, so please, enlighten us. Please.
A 40 time tells you nothing about a OL prospect...time his first 10 yards off the snap of a ball, that would tell you more. Footwork and Hands is all because of your muscle fiber? Give me a break, Footwork, Hands, and Pad Level is something that you develop by busting your ass day in and day out. And what happens when he puts on 40 and is playing at 320? Well, you seem to know it all about every muscle in the human body, so I suppose you know that once he gets into a college stength program that he is going to be faster than when he came in. Just because you put on weight doesn't mean that you are going to get slower...
By the way, Ryan Cook was a center in college, all 6'6" of him...I am not saying this guy could or should play center, but tall centers do exist...
Ojuri is a GREAt get!! Good work Bison!
this is from Hayden Goethe's blog
"We found out at about 10:45 p.m. that wide receiver Nicalaus Powell-Calhoun, a 6-foot-4 senior wide receiver from Segerstrom High School in Santa Ana, Calif., had verbally commited to North Dakota State's football team."

Great to add height to our recieving core
Nice find! Found some other articles on him:

Sounds like he had offers from UND and Sacramento State.
I'm a little surprized. Cal-Poly must not have offered him much of a scholarship. He is supposedly very interested in Engineering and they have a pretty good school which would be closer to his home.
How many more scholarships are still available? It seems we have a lot of verbals.

Nice article about Sam Ojuri in the Chicago Daily Herald.
If we could get Taylor Davis (QB), Brock Jensen (QB) or Dustin Lotzer (QB), and Cooper Wahlo (WR), that would cap a fantastic class. 2 QB and 1 WR are the final pieces, provided the kicker situation gets figured out.
I agree, with the exception that I'd like to see a cornerback, also. The Bison brought in one CB last year (the Miller kid from Muskegon, MI) and he left the team due to homesickness. Virtually all of the DBs recruited the past couple of years sound more like safeties than true corners. Will there be any cornerbacks who aren't juniors (Colvin, Banks, Gatlin?) or seniors (Bowman, Mitchell) this year? If it turns out that Daniel Eaves, or Kevin Jackson, or Jordan Osborne (for example) can be an answer at CB, I'll feel better.
we're getting some great recruits, but I am ready to see a QB verbal and possibly an OL and another CB
I am surprised too. The Orange County Register had earlier reported he had offers from NDSU and UND and interest from Cal Poly and others. When I read that he was interested in majoring in engineering I thought that Cal Poly had a real shot at landing him. Congrats to the Bison, he looks like a great WR.
Here's one thanks to rivals.com. SPPPEEEEDDDD!!!! there you go Lakes!

He was an All-District 1st Team his Sr. Year, 2nd Team Jr. Year...this past season had 54 receptions for 654 yards and 9 TD's, 9 Rushes for 121 yards and a TD...
He lead the team with 54 receptions, number two on the team had 7! Just looking at the team stats, I would say they had a bit of a QB problem...just over a 41% Comp. %...
I would say a very soild pickup...
Another nice addition. Here is some from scout on him and a pic. Looks like a stud!!

While many thought that District 20-5A would come down to HISD’s Madison and Lamar for the title, it was a hungry Westside team that spoiled that plan. In a Week 9 match up, the Wolves slipped by Madison 28-27. One of the top players on the Wolves team is wide receiver Kevin Brooks, who is the primary target.
He was the 79 rated player in the greater houston area.
The nine rated WR
The population of the greater houston area is 5.6 million..
His coach said he is a definite div 1 prospect....had interest(no offer) from tennesee, fresno state and so miss..
Sam Ojuri & Justin Juckem should be great on our team
Wow.. Tennessee, Fresno State, Southern Miss !!!!!!!!!!! Dam!!!!
How does this class as of right now, stack up against our competition and their classes ? UNI, SIU, SDSU, UND, USD ?
NIGHT DAY over the 2 lower tier teams.
UNI and SIU have a solid class coming in. thats why the pressure has been on bohl and coaches!!
I have a feeling that USD will pass SDSU in recruiting in a couple years
There may be another Defensive end coming into NDSU. Danny Lueke from Fargo South made th decision between augustana and NDSU. Chose NDSU
My wish list for the 2009 team is for help at MLB. Henry is fragile, Beeson a bit small I think, and actually better a better fit at OLB along with Evans (my opinion). Anybody remember Dillon Forbes who was recruited out of WI in 07 along with Beeson? He was actually rated higher than Beeson by some (#12 vs 24):
http://www.wissports.net/sports/foot...ar=2006&list=1
He enrolled at Harper College in IL, they actually beat NDSCS this year and it looks like Dillon had a pretty good year. At 6'1" and 240 lbs, I think he has the size.

If he is the JUCO visiting this weekend, I'm all for it, I think we could use the depth at that spot.
