Re: A new and better FBS thread
Everyone about all are tired frustrated playing the old NCC teams. Want bigger and better. That's understandable. Go for it.
But, another topic.
The way the Sioux Nickname and Nickle was taken away was evil.
Why is it taking so long to make a move?

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Seeing rumors of SDSU, Fresno to PAC soon, but not sure if its legit.
Does seem likely at least one or two PAC backfills will come from MWC.
Would love to join MWC if they manage to keep Boise.

I will eat my shoe if Fresno State gets into PAC. I will also (happily) eat my shoe if we get into the MW while Boise is still there, unfortunately.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
The "U of" vs "State" snobbery in CA makes that in MN seem pleasant.
The only way you see a Cal State (San Diego State, Fresno State) school in the PAC is without UC-Berkeley.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
North Dakota is one of the states that California officials and
sports teams can not fly to using govt. funds because of our
trans gender policies. About 20 states.

Montana is also on that list ... for as much as that matters.

Didn't Davis play in Fargo a couple years ago?

North Dakota wasn't added to the list until last summer. https://www.latimes.com/california/s...s-what-to-know
I wonder if playoff games wouldn't be an issue when the NCAA is paying for the travel costs and not the school's athletics department.

WOW!!! No comments on this thread since 4 pm yesterday!!! Did we finally run out of ways to say the same thing over and over for 669 pages?

No there just hasn't been any movement in a few weeks. I'm sure we can make up something else to argue about if it'll make you feel better about yourself. Conference realignment has hardly been static the past three or four years.

I don’t like the MW. Too many of their pxp guys tweeted something I disagreed with once.

MAC would be lucky as hell to get NDSU FB
In other news ...

16 would be even better, of course
B1G must be cognizant of its own greed. Time to throw some bones to the rest of FBS, else they lose interest …

The power conferences are not buying into all conferences getting an AQ, and use NCAA rules as justification to limit the AQs, so there are more at large to go to the power conferences.
What that means is it matters a LOT which conference you are in. The bottom 2 or 4 might get left out most of the time. If that happens, those conferences fall further behind in money and prestige, and the others separate even more. Comparing to FCS, would you want to be in a non-AQ conference like the MEAC?

Appreciate your thoughts Should
@ConferenceUSA expand, who would be ideal/viable?
NDSU , that's it.

Personally not interested in CUSA at this point, but if that thinking is shared by the actual conferences that's great news for us. We need to be known to be the next piece taken off the table when a G5 comes looking. The more our name comes up in front of other conferences, the more the MW may feel the need to pick us and Montana up before someone else does. The leverage would swing from "NDSU will always be there should we need them" to "we better pick these guys up before the MAC does".
We are a Day 1 plug and play option for a quality G5 conference. Our geography may be difficult to swallow for some in those conferences, but in all other regards we'd enter into the MAC or MW as a middle of the road athletic department.

No doubt. We want to be the hot girl every guy wants, but says no thanks to the losers.
It might actually be a good thing if we publically turned down CUSA and said we are waiting for the right fit.

Sure, it's a popular analogy, maybe that makes us look better. I was more so thinking that it reveals the scarcity of what we have to offer to the G5. Once one of them snaps us up, we're gone. Then you're stuck looking at Montana, Idaho, UNI, UTEP, etc.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Whats to stop the Power Conference from leaving the NCAA and just creating something similar to the NFL? One conference is the Big Ten the other is the SEC and you have divisional pods similar to the NFC/AFC.

In a word: Nothing.
They haven't done it yet because the money doesn't work out in their favor (NCAA BB is a ton of money).
The minute that changes .... they-gone.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I think CUSA could be viable if and only if they get creative, so they would first need to fire whoever is running it into the ground currently. They have exactly one asset that I see, FBS conference status, the rest of it, media rights, non-football sports are all trash. That said leverage your FBS status to get the best of the rest. And get a content package a streaming service would want to host. The conference is in three time zones already they just need teams that care about football and have some level of regional rivalry.
Probably not possible but if I was running CUSA I would try to get to 20 teams with 4 pods of 5 teams. That's big enough to have a semi final, final format. Still do the trash bowl the bowl games, but winning CUSA would be more meaningful.
North: NDSU, SDSU, ISUr, Montana, Montana State.
Northeast: UMass, UConn, Delaware, Villanova, Liberty
East: FIU, MTSU, Western Kentucky, Jax State, ETSU
South: UTEP, NMSU, LA Tech, SHSU, Missouri State
All adds are football only so cost wouldn't change to materially assuming everyone is flying already anyway. The conference would get very little from a traditional TV deal, like the CUSA current deal so finding a streaming partner would be a must. No FloSports bs.
Semi final round played on campus. Hold the Championship game in a fun city that is warm and is easy to get to; Dallas, Nashville, Memphis.

There's a few reasons this won't happen:
- CUSA is cash poor and reluctant to expand, because they don't want to split the pie for their NCAA and CFP money with more schools. As of now, there is no media deal after this year, and if they land something, it probably will be Flo, or similar. They pissed off ESPN the last time around, so thats not an option now. Believe I saw Fox said no thanks also.
- It seems the school presidents are scared to lay a hand on Judy, because she is the first female commissioner. They don't want negative PR from firing her.
- If they do expand, it looks like the next schools up are those that will make SHSU, UTEP, NMSU happy - namely SFA, Tarleton, etc. Judy has made this a texas centric league, and they are willing to dig deep in that pool. Maybe they go as far as Kennesaw, but that rumor was recently denied by both CUSA and KSU AD.
- some of the schools on that list hope to land elsewhere. WKU wants MAC. MTSU wants AAC. Missouri St has been talking to SBC. CUSA is toxic right now, and most FBS schools would only go there if forced to. LT wants out, but has nowhere to go. They'd jump in a heartbeat for SBC or AAC.

How much cash could actually be involved from the NCAA and CFP per team? My thought above was that it was near zero because the independents would take break-even money if it was out there. Or maybe they just take the paydays from the non conference beat downs from the Big10 in the early fall and then the SEC in the late fall.
Also Judy is a fool if she thinks a 4th tier Texas league is a good idea. SEC, Big 12, AAC, then CUSA good call.
On streaming, you need one of YouTube, Amazon, or Apple and you don’t do it for money you do it for exposure and stream quality. The CAA stuff is awful, I think flosports is still trying to hit my Amex from the Delaware game.
At this point I just want to see NDSU avoid the hallowed out FCS and dissolving fan interest, Murray State home games will not help. How much to buy CUSA fire everyone and move HQ to Fargo? I can see the Hero Sports headline now… NDSU privately funds purchase of FBS conference.
