the draw of FBS teams coming to Fargo(bcs or not) far outweigh any potential FCS has. Could you imagine a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 when it came to scheduling teams and having a Big12 school come here? That would be awesome.
But i guess that some of you are fine with New Hampshire, Coastal Carolina & Delaware St.
i mean Ferris St just played a freaking home game here, how low is that? NDSU deserves way better than this.
There will never be an FBS team in Fargo. Why does the discussion of moving up come up non stop. The teams that have moved up werent teams that were at the top of 1-AA they have been mediocre teams that had the stadiums in place, prepared moneywise and were in the right place geographically. We are none of those three. Lets see what kind of support this team has next year or two or three years down the road without a trip to Frisco or without more than one home playoff game or even without a home playoff game, or god forbid no playoff bid. Im sorry but if bison football isnt big enough to outdraw hunting, how do we fare against a bad bison team on thw field. The last thing we need to be is the next umass or temple. Lots of things need to be in place before the thought of moving up should even be entertained. Step one is increasing the athletic budget from within, two would be entertaining a new or expanded stadium, and finally would be evaluating conference invitations.

that almost trumps anything FCS.
NDSU at its peak(we know what it is for FCS) but for FBS is unimaginable. NDSU would help any of the lower conferences out almost instantly for BCS relevance.
You keep forgetting the purple. They just talked about this very thing on the Jack Michaels show today. Maybe lakes should listen to someone who knows what they are talking about, no way that NDSU should even think about a move right now, not for at least 5 or more years.
Stadium- not big enough and building another dome that holds 30k would cost 400-500million where do you think that money is going to come from? Outdoors stadium, ok , it's a little cheaper, but you not going to get 20k-25k Bison fans to sit outside during a snow storm or 5 below temps, look at the makeup of the fans that go to games now and you will see why.
Athletic budget- the budget for all sport in total will have to double from 16 million to about 30 million or more, travel goes up, coaches salaries, scholarships, schedule to bring teams in for ooc games in all sports, the list goes on.
National Championships- forget about having a shot at one of those cause it isn't going to happen, were not going to get into a BCS conference so forget going to the 4 team playoff or even a 8 team one if they expand it. And who wants to go to some meaningless bowl game that has no meaning to it and only pays the school 700 k but costs us a million or more in the end. Yeah we travel well in the playoffs to the NC game, but would struggle to get 6-10 k to a bowl that is low level and means nothing after it is over.
Even Gene Taylor gave it away how far off we were from FBS when he said he knew Wyoming was going to go after Bohl and there was NO WAY we could compete with what they were going to offer him. Yeah the move is for football to go FBS, but it drags the other sports in the school into a new conference but puts the whole athletic program under a lot of strain. To manyother reason to go into tobut those are some of the most important ones as to why it is wrong to think of going for a while, if at all.

Funny that you talk about a guy running the numbers (finances), who is not even a teamaker or that can be proven even donates to the school.
Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
If NDSU is going to go FBS, it will have to be MBB that pushes it over. The dome is fairly close to being maxed out on revenue (i think they could get another million out of a 6 game schedule without too much drama), but there is alot of room for MBB to grow. Without a perennial top-80 team noone outside of the mac will be interested. Getting VB and WBB back on track would be a great help as well.
On the plus side I see that teammakers will now be able to run two more gaming sites after a change in city rules. That will be nice bump, but not enough to make a big difference. Also, the donor base is growing every day. NDSU graduates how many more students a year now than it did 15 years ago?

The reality is whether or not we remain at the FCS or move to the FBS, we need an expansion plan or a new indoor stadium. We should be #1 in attendance but we can't sell any more tickets. If Montana can do 26K or Montana State can do 20K, we sure as hell can do 25K. But that would never happen outdoors. You are correct that we could not draw 30K fans late in the year in sub zero weather. Besides why would we want to give up the most unique atmosphere in the nation for an outdoor stadium so we can be like everyone else? These Mac programs would kill to have a dome but the reality is they could never ever raise that kind of money.
FBS or FCS? It's been debated to death so I wont chime in. But if we could increase our athletic budget and raise some more money, we could certainly pay our coaches a number closer to Wyoming than we currently do. I think we could close the gap without a new stadium but certainly a larger capacity would help. The size of an athletic budget isn't only based on capacity. Look at Duke basketball. Need to find other sources. TV money. Baskeball revenue. The team makers revenue will explode once the shac is done. Teammakers can raise more money in the dome if needed. Last report I saw had wyomings budget at $21,445,005. Arent we at 15 million? It's far off yet reachable. We were at 4 million in 2004...

I've been a teammaker for over 10 years. I assume your referring to others in general?
Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
after we win again its time for fbs. we will be in the middle tier no matter what if there is a shift overall. i dont want to settle for being the top of fcs and better than some fbs. i want to be the next boise state and better than most programs in the country :). maybe somewhere down the road every conference will get a bid to the playoffs. the only reasonable argument against it is the money aspect. if we moved up would donors step up even more?
Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
Just a general question, but if we add 22 scholarships for football we need to add 22 women's scholarships, assuming we don't cut other men's sports, where would these scholarships go? Could we possibly add another women's sport?
