Two very large, very late football recruiting battles going on (Chase Stangel and Marcus Williams) with the Bison and UNI in the mix.
When a player gets a scholarship for football and then plays football and basketball, does his scholarship count against both sport's maximums? I'm guessing it doesn't count against basketball or NDSU and SDSU wouldn't have had football players filling roster holes during transition.

Counts against football. Here's the priority list; the scholarship counts against the first sport played.
Men
Football
Basketball
Ice Hockey
Swimming and Water Polo = Swimming
Swimming or Water Polo or anything else = can be counted in either sport
Women
Basketball
Volleyball
Any other two sports = can be counted in either

I believe Marcus is Northern Iowa bound to play both sports

If that is true it wouldn't be terribly surprising. NDSU loses more recruiting battles in the TC area than they win against UNI, and it is beyond me to understand why.
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
I sort of thought we turned it around this year on UNI, but they still are very good at recruiting the TC area. It would have been nice to get this kid...that is for sure.

I am willing to bet that once NDSU gets established in the FCS the battles will swing our way more often. When they look at the 4-4 record in the first full year in the conference it gives NDSU a mediocre appearance. As the years progress and the success continues at this level it will be easier. Thats just what I think.

yea our record last year didnt help

Our record is not a huge factor in the desicion of recruits IMO!! Every prospective player knows a program WILL have a down year, most recruits will look at coaching, depth at prospected position (or what position the coaches would like him to play), Majors at the university, type offense/defense etc... I just don't buy into your record being a huge factor of course, if you have been a bottom feeder for serveral years, but we had two 10-1 seasons and going 6-5 in the MVFC last year is nothing to be ashamed of, the kid who picked UNI had something he liked more about their program and University congrats to the Panthers, we took some serious good recruits in 09 from MN that UNI wanted also!! Win some Lose some;)

I have never been able to find confirmation of Marcus Williams committing to Northern Iowa. Can't find anything via google and nada on the PantherNation board. It still seems likely, but it would be a little wierd for an athlete of his caliber to commit with absolutey NO press..
Anybody? Bueller?
