Most likely it will be either SEC and B1G doing the poaching, or B12 expanding that sets off the next wave.
I don't see the value of southern/eastern teams joining PAC-12 or it being that likely.
Maybe SEC poaches the ACC, and they backfill with B12 teams. Its generally a downward cascade.
SEC/B1G are tier 1, ACC/PAC/B12 are tier 2, MWC/AAC are tier 3 in media deals and pecking order.

Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, Kansas all off the top of my head would at least entertain Pac12 talk.
It’s been no small secret that the Big12 is the first “power” conference on the outside looking in. SEC already did their poaching and took one of the teams you listed. The rest are all looking for calmer waters.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Then there is this getting sorted out today in CA
Link posted below states that 'Cal, Stanford and "possibly" UCLA would give serious thought to dropping out of FBS if SB-1401 passes in its current form, so there's one side of it.'
https://footballscoop.com/news/new-d...sports-forever
https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/05/...ting-and-more/
How do you suppose Cal and Stanford would fare in FCS?
Its bonkers out there. Stay tuned …

Re: A new and better FBS thread
NDSU should be FBS...
Hayes, Cox, Zeb, Cofield QP..... all goto FBS in last 3 years. argh

The thing is, B12 to PAC 12 is a mostly lateral move money wise.
PAC 12 teams currently make $21 mil/year in their media deal. B12 is expected to make $22 mil/year with their new teams.
The exit fees for B12 schools meanwhile are $80 million.
I don't disagree B12 teams might jump, just don't see them going to the PAC 12 unless the economics change.
The geography isn't a great fit either. SEC or B1G make more sense.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
The SEC and the BIG are going to eat everyone eventually. It’s just a matter of who gets which brands and media markets.

Its almost all driven by $$$ and media deals.
If a conference can earn more per team by adding someone, they will jump at that. Texas and OU are big markets and more media money.
If a conference's earnings are diluted by adding a team, they will be very hesitant. Schools don't like to vote for payout decreases.

True. They’re going to eat everyone that’s worth eating.

Nice, what's that B12 media deal going to look like when Texas and Oklahoma leave?
Gonna be "any port in the storm" time for the B12 when that happens. I'd imagine KU goes to B10, West Virginia will go either B10 or ACC and the rest of the state schools will be looking to leave.

WVU probably isn't going to sniff the B1G if they aren't AAU members. And frankly, I don't think they are even close.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Presidents vote, not ADs.
The key academic ACC members (UNC, Duke, UVA, G'Tech) view WVU as "hillbillies". Non-starter.

What I saw was current B12 media deal is ~$28 mil for each school, estimated to be $22 mil with the new teams/alignment.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I don't know if it hurts your chances or helps but the MW voted to do away with divisions for football starting in 2023...I, personally think it means they won't look to add should a couple schools leave but just speculation on my part..

PAC did this also. Reading up on it, I think it's more about trying to get their two best teams into the conference title game, to improve odds of NY6/CFP bids.
This was all kicked off when the rules changed to allow a conference championship games without having divisons. It seems a lot of conferences are considering dropping divisions now.

Agreed. Nothing nefarious, which is something everyone thinks these days ABOUT EVERYTHING!

I've always thought that playing a conference championship game introduces all sorts of risk related to NY6/CFP opportunities. If you have undefeated team, why take the risk? The only compelling reason is for the money that a conference championship game brings. Although I don't know if that is even big enough for a MWC team to take the risk.

If truthful, he must be getting a little creative with the criteria.
Possibilities:
Not counting Texas and Oklahoma because they're moving to the SEC.
Only counting the Big XII wrestling schools and not the whole Big XII.
Using subsidy as a percentage of the athletic budget in some cases, but as an absolute value in others.
The go to source was always USA Today, but that's now behind a paywall.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
sounds like Dean isn't listening to his "TEXAS A&M" mindframe.. but has been corrupted by the "STONY BROOK" mindframe
Plus, Dean isn't gonna bag on his BOSS David Cook and set him up for failure.
David Cook should bring in his OWN AD and Tell that AD. "If you don't get us into the Mountain West in 2 years, Youre FIRED"

Brilliant ... I'm sure dozens of well qualified AD's will line up for that death march edict.
If we just fire enough Presidents and AD's, the MWC will have pity on us :frog:
Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?

orrr. we get someone with some balls and not an east coast elitist softie.
HES COASTIN & AINT GONNA UPSET HIS APPLE CART...
COOK should bring in his own people & get FBS moving here at NDSU. Alot of people pushed to get Cook this job because he has a Big 12 guy, time to pay it off.
151-12 in last 11 years & 9 titles ....and the fcs is watered down badly at this point.

Stony Brook is not elitist. Idk how many times I have to tell you this. Its a major New York public university on Long Island. Anyone who has been to Long Island can tell you it's not exactly elitist. The stereotype of Long Islanders are working class people who take the train to work in New York City. Lots of cops, firemen, nurses, tradesmen, etc.

fuck the geography strawman.
if NDSU joins the Mountain West. A member like San Diego would fly to Fargo every other year.... they already would fly to Wyoming or Air Force/Colorado St ....so to fly an extra 1.5 hours is meaningless bullshit.
so that's nothing in the grand scheme
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
3 hours extra flight round trip is chump change broz.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
1 hour of commercial flight = 80 family meals at Applebee's.

I know you western nodakers don't get out much. but these things called airplanes. they go 550mph. costs the same to fly San Diego to Wyoming as San Diego to Fargo
