Re: A new and better FBS thread
Bison need to join an FBS conference at the first opportunity. They will raise the football stature considerably. At that point additional opportunities will present themselves. Think, Gonzaga in basketball. The current status of all FBS conferences will be reshaped in the next 5 years. 2 things, go FBS and focus on NIL sponsors to underwrite the attraction of ND in winter.

Wolf Pack. Nice. Thanks for your interest, in interesting times.
I became somewhat of an Eric Mussleman fan during his tenure there. I was sad to see him leave, TBH, but it’s the nature of the business, I guess. I thought he had great chemistry with that crew. Some people don’t like him.
The first year the Twolves formed, they played in a corner of the Humpty dome, and a few of us were regulars. His dad was the coach, and I thought he was nuts. We saw everyone there, Jordan, Magic, etc. We would buy shitty seats and squat courtside as close as we could. Crazy times. The NBA was fun then, but who knows, maybe it’ll be fun tonight …

out of all the FBS teams the smallest fbs budget for student fees/allocation is $3.8 million.
ndsu students will HAVE TO step up this FBS move

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Hating on Chapo aside, we're talking about ~$75 per semester of an increase in student fees per student to get us to that level. UND is already doing it

Don't forget UMt and MtSU are tied similarly.
That's why I say "build it".
So what if "build it" means that group of six schools is "C-USA North Division" for a few years as a way to get to FBS status.
Frankly, C-USA would be wise to make such a move if for nothing else self-preservation.
After that group meets full FBS criteria maybe they split off or ... whatever.

https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2022/4/...ama-ohio-state
This link is cool not just for the landscape of FCS-to-NFL since 2011, but because of how NDSU sticks out like an upper G5 in the context of producing NFL talent
Post recent realignment, the MWC is clearly the top G5 (scroll down to the bottom)

Or just take out a college loan and expect it to be forgiven? That’s how money is getting “spent” at the Federal level right now, and ends up right back in the pockets of those who voted for said spending/measures.

I don’t know seems like it’s all a bunch of talk so far.

Just as there's no "FCS Forever" crowd here, there's no "hockey only" crowd there.
Right circumstance, right opportunity, and people would make the right move.
If FB would generate more revenue, you bet they'd go for it.
As far as money spend, in the group I mention (plus Idaho), NDSU's mid-pack.
The Montana schools (and SDSU?) are shelling out some football dollars: https://knightnewhousedata.org/reports/b9d2b703
Compared to Montana State, we're all pikers.

That’s just regurgitating DOE numbers, like these two links
https://footballscoop.com/news/the-h...s-programs-are
https://thesportsarsenal.com/2021/02...ses-fcs-style/
And as both authors acknowledge, they are meaningless. But sure, if you say so, NDSU spends as much on FB as Bucknell and Lehigh. I haven’t seen their IPFs, so I can’t comment, but I know they don’t put many players in the NFL …

Hope you're not counting on CUSA to do that. They burned bridges with ESPN, and as a result have a sh!tty media deal. We likely make more now.
Most *other* G5 conferences are paying out new members about $2M/year, except for MWC, which is much better.
That would about cover the NIL money for one USC wide receiver.
Reality is our fans/donors are going to need to spend more if we want to be competitive in FBS. Media money won't do it.
And its also not a fair ask of students to foot the bill for what is becoming NFL lite, with escalating costs.

The other cool thing about this link is that you can see exactly where the split would happen, assuming that they ever got their poop in a group and figured how to do. Now, with Emmert gone, things will move even slower, if it ever happens.
Right around a "draft value" of 15000. NDSU is close to schools like Cincinnati and Wake Forest, clearly at the top of the second tier. Hard to say which other FCS schools would be in that tier, since we have no control over it.

Crash a private meeting of a private group?
That Dale Carnegie course (win friends, influence people) is working well for you.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
https://www.espn.com/college-footbal...heir-own-rules
OSU AD suggests that all FBS FB leave NCAA and adopt FCS-like playoff structure under CFP umbrella
They’d have to reign in NIL before the "lessers" agree, but lots of action starting now with imminent NCAA leadership change on the horizon
Something like this is much more likely than a split within the P5, IMO
