Let the "Normal" schools have their subdivision back. We're only here because we didn't successfully jump to FCS when we already belonged in the 70s/80s. It's NDSU's time to enter the main stage. It has been for a while now.
It is a shame that the 2013, 2017, 2018 and 2019 teams weren't able to play a full FBS schedule with multiple P5 opponents.
We're obviously ready for a G5 level move, but a lot of the P5 fanbases like Michigan are much larger. Even Kansas pulls in 25-30k fans each game. If they were winning those games, I bet it'd be much higher. We might have to expand/replace the fargodome to get an MWC invite. For the MAC it would be fine. Attendance and stadium size is one area where Montana has an edge on us.
Supposedly Montana previously had two FBS opportunities they turned down, MWC in 2006 and WAC in 2010.

Absolutely would not trade our success and NC's for Arizona's trainwreck of a program.
Yes, it would be nice to play more FBS games, but winning matters too.

I don't know if I would trade our past success for Arizona's, but if you were to tell me that moving forward I got to pick between winning the FCS championship most years or being middle-bottom of a P5 conference most years... I'm taking P5. Not that P5 even matters or is in the conversation.
The good news is that there is a home for state flagship universities w/ a half billion dollar endowment. It's the G5, and it's where we belong.

Elite? meh, UofM was a commuter school 20 years ago. I'm not saying it's a bad school but I've worked with a lot of UofM graduates. They all had a nickname for me.....it was boss.

Uh...no. The U of M was not a commuter school 20 years ago, nor has it ever been. It is an urban school, but that's not necessarily the same thing. It is a better school academically than most of the B1G. I've got a lot of issues with the U of M, but let's not pretend it isn't a superior school in most metrics--regardless of whether any of their grads have ever called you "boss."

^This is true. NDSU does pale in comparison, but its apples and oranges. I’ll stop there, ND … No worries. Peace out
UM TC doesn’t score way high in US News, but neither does NDSU. Pay no attention to the .coms … unless you want to buy something from them.
UM TC is one of the best research universities in the country*. They just suck at athletics ;)
*and NDSU ain’t too shabby either

omg yes. that 2013 team and Carsons senior team would've easily won the Mountain West and been in a New Years Day Bowl Game or close to it
why are we wasting this dynasty run!!!!

We will never know how those seasons would have gone..
However, wouldn't you be wasting your time in the Mountain West too..?
You seem to think the conference offers you no competition at all..

You ever been to Laramie? It's like the devils lake of Wyoming but instead of walleyes they have hippies. The meth is top notch. Only better stuff is in Rawlins.

El Chapo thinks a lot of things. Most of them conflict with each other. Fits of passion don't appear to be the foundation of a strong argument :)
"Mountain West sucks and is afraid of NDSU, let's go to the AAC!!"
--five minutes later--
"FBS!! Pump it up!! Let's leave pudville and go to the Mountain West!"

Re: A new and better FBS thread
at this point, just get me in, ANY FBS!. Mountain West is afraid to add NDSU because they'd be top dog on day 1. this is very true.

Way back we got rejected by the Big Sky when trying to go FCS, word on the street was that they were looking for a doormat and not a competitor.
It turned out they were right, but now there's a lot of NDSU fans that project that same reasoning when FBS conferences (and the MVC) won't invite us. Probably doesn't hurt their reasoning that no FBS schools will answer our calls for a game.
But when it comes to lack of conference interest, it's all down to geography.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
If the MW wanted you, geography would not matter to them at all..
I think the MW has done its homework on NDSU and may indeed have interest. They have never been afraid to add a top dog in football. TCU and Boise as classic examples.
However, the conference currently sits at 12 members and won't likely add anyone until 2026 even if a school or two leave. There is no certainty about schools leaving at the moment.
I believe the MW views itself as more of a basketball conference than a football conference. There appears to movement to eliminating divisions so there is no need to have 12 football schools..
The WAC once had 16 members. Everybody hated that and the MW broke off with just 8 members. I think they are perfectly content to get smaller in numbers if that situation arises.

It boggles my mind that you want those 3 letters so badly you'd happily trade MVFC competition for Southland puds (cusa)
Traveling all across the country to play crap teams is silly. Wanting to be a 1-11 Arizona team is equally silly.
What we have in the MVFC is far better than that today.
If we are going to "move up" to FBS, then let's be sure it really is an upgrade and not a downgrade in competition.
The schools in the conference and the teams you are playing against matter more than the label.

Ah yes, the infamous "Denver Airport meeting" that spawned the (paraphrased) line from the commissioner, "The problem with a 16 team conference is you wake up one morning with two eight-team conferences."
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
That commissioner is still in place..

Re: A new and better FBS thread
geography has ZERO to do with football only invite
All sports probably a bit, but is 12 airline flights gonna kill a budget for basketball? big deal

I blocked Chapo because I know he's an idiot. If I ever have any doubt about that I only need to wait until someone quotes him and I see that he's still an idiot.

There are reasons you dont have a job in this capacity. This is just one of them.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
So let me get this straight.
The MW is evil because they are afraid to play your football team, are unwilling to fly 1 more hour, too cheap, elitist snobs and part of the cabal who's only mission is to punish NDSU.

You are bringing facts and logic to battle against a man who is unaffected by either

10-year deal on naming rights for new Dome turf? I know it’s just a “contract”, but possiblly shackles NDSU from having new stadium for at least 10 years? Hopefully the dumb attorney who drafted contract gave NDSU an out of some sort.

I would hope so. I'm really starting to worry about Stony Brook 2.0 happening here.

At the current state of fan engagement, I'm hoping to have the need (again) for a new stadium within ten years.

I'm pretty sure they're not going to have a new stadium in the next 10 years.

The turf is used for high school sports too but if we got a new stadium, pretty sure Gate City Bank would be a major sponsor.

"Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick told Sports Illustrated that he believes the breakup of college sports at the NCAA Division I level is 'inevitable' and puts a potential target date on that seismic change as the mid-2030s"
"Absent a national standard*, which I don’t see coming, I think it’s inevitable" Swarbrick said. "Mid-30s would be the logical time"
* Gee I wonder who he’s referring to?
So the long-awaited FB "split", which is shaping up to occur WITHIN the P5 and not between the G5 and P5, is more than 10 years away

Moving target. Always will be.

I just want to make sure that all the "wait-for-split" and "FCS-is-going-to-merge-with-the-G5" people understand that they are waiting for something that will never, ever happen. One day they will wake up and NDSU will be forever encased in the third-level of CFB, but then that seems to be what they want - to move backwards, not forward. Nostalgia and such ...
