They’d likely follow suite and say, "OK, we’re going to make our own FBS league out of the next 65 teams, with our own playoff and bowl games". This would then be the clear "second level" of D1 CFB. The only FCS teams remotely in contention would be NDSU, SDSU, both Montana’s, Mo State and maybe SIU, and this assumes that a decent chunk of the G5 accepts relegation to the third tier (FCS), which is highly doubtful (sorry, but EWU is not next-level material).

So, in other words, move up now or later, it doesn’t really matter for NDSU, and it does nothing to change the extremely improbable "promotion" of the entire MVFC to what would become the second level of D1 CFB.

Even in this radically realigned CFB landscape, NDSU is still the only FCS team in position to move up. Food for thought ...
    Ya I can see that

I just don't know why ANY Bison Football fan wants to stay & do the same thing that we've done for 10 years ..... Don't you strive to see JUST HOW BIG NDSU FOOTBALL COULD BE?

we are holding it back, and it's losing fans, losing interest and losing momentum

the time to go is NOW.
NDSU TO FBS. HAVEN'T WE WON ENOUGH?

How many times have I heard the expression on 1660 or here at Bisonville that NDSU is the only FCS school in a position to move up, while simultaneously watching other FCS teams move up and move past us? We've settled into a smug complacency by excelling in the FCS. When others move up (like JSU or SHSU), we mock them as unprepared for the move. We've got the arrogance, complacency, and lack of vision of UND in the early 2000s. I hate it.
I don't care what Jim says. That is not the real Ben Franklin. I'm 99% certain.

Montana and Montana State are both positioned to move up at an equal or greater level to move up than we are. They have stadiums that can expand. They have fans showing up. I say this as an FBS or bust kinda alum. I hope we jump at the first chance we get. We belong there. We'll never win a title. We might make a fun bowl though.

Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Kansas, Arizona will NEVER ever win a title either, but they are up there as well as 50 G5 colleges. maybe they should all go down to fcs.

face facts FBS is where the major college football world is at

You listed elite academic institutions. What do they have to do with anything?

Schools like Kansas and Arizona are not what we should aspire to for football

Being a total loser on a bigger stage is not impressive.
Part of reality here is that $$$, alumni and fanbase size drive conference alignments.
As much as we would like to think we belong somewhere based on competitiveness, wins and losses, its not that simple.
People who want to see us jump should be doubling down on Teammakers and season tickets.

Boise St, Houston, UCF are the role models of success.

We'll get to it soon. Just got done with taxes. Have to let the dust settle.

One does have to wonder about Bowlsby's timing for stepping down. There will be P5 infighting now for next decade, and the Big 12 will have to fight the hardest.

$$$, alumni and fanbase size? We're already there, where have you been? Ask anybody in the CFB world, NDSU's football program is a high-performing G5 school by all accounts other than its geography. Is blowing the doors off a subdivision full of teachers' colleges and 6 small state flagship universities impressive? Screw Kansas' FB program, but I'd gladly switch places with any other FB program listed.

Let the "Normal" schools have their subdivision back. We're only here because we didn't successfully jump to FCS when we already belonged in the 70s/80s. It's NDSU's time to enter the main stage. It has been for a while now.

It is a shame that the 2013, 2017, 2018 and 2019 teams weren't able to play a full FBS schedule with multiple P5 opponents.
