Isn't everyone in every conference looking for that next great opportunity? The recent "move up" invites were from distressed conferences.
And if they aren't in jeopardy, as you posit, they're at (probably) ten or more already. Are they looking to add FB schedule challenges to that existing problem? As some here say, nine is the best for FB scheduling.

What's the conundrum? If they need us in all sports, offer us in all sports. If they just want the football brand and nothing else, offer us in football only. The only conundrum is that our location sucks.
MAC and MW both have separate divisions so the 9 member round robin play everyone doesn't apply to either conference. The MVFC (hopefully) will never go east/west. Would be more lopsided than the SEC.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Not to mention the fact that the D1 rule book is in the process of being rewritten right now, no?
But we get it. You'll miss us. Some of us will miss you too, apparently, but not me.
Not directly related, but per Dabo's comments, if you look at what he's really saying (internal P5 split), it will be many years, probably over a decade or more, before there is any movement toward a break within FBS. I figured the wait-for-the-split crowd were all over his comments last week, but the devils in the details, and what he's really asking for would take a long time to sort out. This beast has both gobs of money and tons if inertia, and change like that in p5 college FB will likely occur at a glacial pace.

Unless you’re Norte Dame. Then you get to write your own rules.

Yes, UMass was booted out of the MAC because they refused to be a full all sports member.
Even more true now that FBS conferences are raiding each other for members. They want/need a safety net to keep their FBS status.
The idea that NDSU is going to get a FB only invite is wishful thinking imo.

Both of those are spot on.
They'd go NW/SE --> UND/NDSU/SDSU/USD/UNI/WIU || ISUr/SIU/MoiSt/MuSt/ISUb/YSU

That is basically every G5 conference. CUSA lost 9 schools this last round, and could lose one or two more.
We really need to be focused on MAC and MWC, because you are talking about travel for all sports. Even if its not a problem for NDSU, other schools will not want long travel for all their sports. This is less of a concern in the MWC where the media deal can offset costs.

I don’t think it would take long to sort out. The amount of money to be made would speed up the initial details and the others could be ironed out as you moved along.
Some of the new rules in college sports actually help with what would have been the most difficult details/differences which makes me believe it’s closer than some think. The large schools don’t put rules in place to even the playing field.

They couldn’t even find consensus on playoff expansion. How will the P5 come to a decision on who goes to the premier league and who stays with the G5?
Regardless, the time for NDSU to move up is here. “Wait-for-the-split” is no longer a valid argument.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
it would HELP our non football sports.
let's face it, we aren't exactly killing it last few years in all sports like we should. so raising the playing field will help us get better recruits & have better athletes

They are already slowly making the decisions on who moves up. It’s happening within the Big10, Pac12, ACC and SEC. The amount of money when it’s time will quickly drive the rest. Dabo is not thinking this all up in his own, more repeating what everyone is already talking about.

No doubt he's just repeating stuff, but I'm highly skeptical they'll partition the P5 within a decade, for exactly the same reason you cite: money. If you have a link that says it is imminent, please post it.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Seems like they’re publicly negotiating the new rules of the road under the devolved constitution, which probably means they don’t think they’re getting enough of what they want.

Exactly. It's a bluff. They want NIL, but they don't want to come out and say it, and they want to stay under the banner of the NCAA, while creating a semipro FB league. Sorry, but I'm skeptical.
Finding agreement within a conference is one thing, getting consensus across the P5 is quite another. Sounds like they want to keep hoops intact? What about everything else? It will take more than a decade.
Again, if anyone has any links, please post them. Otherwise it's just hearsay.

P5 Got what they wanted a couple of years ago. They get most of the money and for all intents and purposes they only follow the rules they want to.
Dont know why some think there is going to be a big split. G5 is happy thinking they are big and they still get to play in the bowl system and get paid for it.

Killing it is what 10 inches of heavy wet snow on your deck does to your body mind soul in middle April. Shovel it for the dog. Where's Odin? Odin pro Bullet Train.
Faces a popular bar downtown GF. It must be 25 30 years ago when they closed.
Killing it in,The Green Mile Movie, at the end of it the mouse Mr. Jingles and Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) are still alive. John Coffey had the gift and he transferred it to Mr. Edgecomb and he to Mr. Jingles.

Nothing happens until we get rid of Matt Larsen, and he won't leave.

I don't understand why you guys all doubt a man would work hard to increase his own salary.
Again...for the millionth time, just because you haven't seen the work doesn't mean that it did not happen. You're unhappy with the current results but how could you possible know what has transpired behind the scenes? This narrative is growing really old.
I'm supportive of a move but see no purpose in railing on people in charge like a child. Perhaps fans could start a non-profit to assist with the fan lobbying effort. Perhaps that group could be the organization that shows strong, visible, public support so that the AD can continue with its behind-the-scenes, HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL, work. Perhaps instead of people getting pissy, they help affect change in some positive way.
I don't know, just spitballing.

The fact is that you have absolutely no idea. Have you ever in your life lifted anything UP? It seems to me that you only know how to cut things and people down. Weak minds think that way.
You'd think that at some point, you'd realize that when to do nothing but toxify the discussion, people won't want to be a part of it and that hurts the overall cause. But go ahead and you be you.

prove me wrong. WHY THE FUCK HAVENT DEAN & MATT PUSHED FBS IN LAST 5 YEARS? (dean was retiring & Matt is along for the ride)
NDSU SHOULD BE FBS BACK IN 2013. WE ARE LITERALLY WASTING YEARS TROPHY CHASING.
WE SHOULD BE BIGGER AND BETTER THAN FCS
PERIOD. so dam right I'm gonna push this. it's ridiculous

I don't have to prove shit. You're the one slinging turds in all directions, spreading a toxic vibe all over this topic. What can you prove, other than that you haven't seen something happen? Why do you think that you should be informed of a confidential process? JFC you're so completely entitled. Get over yourself. You just aren't that important to tell yet.

Why in the world does anyone have to disprove your theories? After all, you can't possibly know who has spoken to who...right? I won't disagree that we should be moving up, but the constant degrading and shit-tossing won't get anyone's attention in a positive way.
I had an actual, honest to god, face to face discussion with an athletics official recently. Asked him about the public perception that NDSU may not be interested in a move up, and if one might assume that there are behind-the-scenes discussions happening to that goal. He just smiled and said "maybe, we won't be talking to the Forum about it though".
I know Matt and Dean well enough to understand they are both intelligent and professional guys with NDSU's best interest at heart, and both have a track record to prove it. You seem like a self-aggrandizing asswipe with small-man's syndrome. Prove me wrong on either count.

Yeah, I'm pretty fucking tired of it and will not argue when he finally gets banned again. He's actually an okay guy in person, at least from the few times that I've met him which, admittedly has been awhile. However, this online schtick needs a fork stuck in it.

From my experience dealing with east coast people... they like money as much as anybody else.
Stony Brook isn't elitist either lol. It's a public school on Long Island.

Exactly. But Lakes doesn't actually know the east coast or the west coast. He spouts nonsense and small-minded generalizations when, in fact, his experience spans only from the western edge of Fargo to maybe Dinkytown. It's a small world in that tiny little mind. Doesn't realize that if you make friends rather than enemies, you might actually get things done. Either that or he actually IS a UND fan in disguise.

NDSU is interested in FBS, and there have been discussions. Timing is everything. Did NDSU maybe miss on an option? Possibly, but that doesn’t mean discussions and interest aren’t happening/have waned.
