That ship sailed, and the reason the MWC is sitting tight is because they aren’t getting any more money right now. They will once the playoffs expand to 12, some say big-time $$. They want CST and will go to 14 to do so, even if no one leaves. That’s my prediction and I am confident that NDSU has a good shot for FB-only. That’s why it’s important to be selective and not rush the CUSA option.
You say the MWC won’t take FCS, but NDSU isn’t really FCS. I saw on some CUSA board that you should have to have been in a natty to even be considered for FBS. NDSU has won 8 of the last 10, ffs. Despite what the up-north haters and FCS-forevers say, NDSU is both worthy and ready, and there is nobody else in FCS that is even close now that JMU is gone. That’s just the truth, even if some people, Bison-fans included, don’t want to hear it.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
My dream scenario would be the Montanas and Dakotas making up CUSA North division. It could save the conference and makes sense, but it would never happen. Hence the dream scenario.

Honestly this really could happen if teams worked together to court the CUSA. The only teams that are ready for FBS are NDSU, Montana, Montana St, Southern Utah, and to a lesser extent SDSU, UNI………….. too bad USD SIU MSU and UND can’t get above 15k in attendance otherwise we would have a great north division

NDSU would need to add 18 women’s scholarships somewhere to balance out the increased FBS minimum scholarships

If Conference USA asks nicely then we will probably go and try and take some MVC schools with us so that we aren't the only bad guy.
I would love to see NDSU and SDSU join us. Maybe even the Yotes and the Fighting Hawks too. The Indiana State beat guy wrote a column today about how Missouri State should stay. He probably knows that he could soon be the beat reporter for a team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Evansville and Northern Iowa are in similar situations.
So MSU may be willing to take a bit to their BB program to try and elevate their FB program? Is the MVC a one bid conference like the CUSA dumpster? I would love to have NDSU in the MVC.
What has MSU been averaging this year for football attendance? Honestly I don’t think team can cut it at the FBS unless they are about 15k or above. That puts many schools on the outside looking in.

Before all this realignment what conference has a team that doesnt have at least another conference member in state or in a neighbor state (excluding Hawaii) ...... Buffalo (still within 5 hr of drive of multiple teams) and 2 Big12 teams (ISU, WVU)... thats it
Leaving the best option for NDSU move up to have a partner or two. Preferably one geographically closer to NDSU. This would also help NDSU maintain some rivalry with a team nearby. Only see a couple teams that could fit that bill, SDSU and Montana and to a lesser extent UND or Montana State.
I think ideally the PAC12 poaches Boise and San Diego State.. The MWC tell Hawaii to go pound sand and they add NDSU, and two of Montana, SDSU, Montana State
The MWC has a ton of options in their own backyard to replace teams if they leave. Southern Utah, Montana, Montana St, and NMSU are all worthy options with strong attendance. NDSU has more prestige but they are much further away. NDSU is honestly probably 4th or 5th on their list.

Is there any room for that or are we looking at adding Equestrian and Crew again? Lacrosse? That might actually be more sensible?

Not sure where they would /could go. I’m sure we would add a summit sponsored sport first before adding one that isn’t sponsored.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
IF I WAS DEAN BRESCIANI....
I would have my burner cell phone calling all the presidents in the mountain west & MAC and finding a way to persuade them to invite NDSU
I'm lame ducking it, what the fuck do I care at this point if they tell.me to pound sand.
NDSU has to do something, He should stick his head out. because his A.D isn't gonna do anything to upset his easy street living off our successful past that was laid out for him

Not exactly true, but close enough. Last I heard, NDSU uses the Interests and Abilities test for Title IX and not the Proportionality test. So there isn't a "we added ten men's scholarships so we have ten women's" situation. That being said, NDSU is pretty far apart in proportionality already and I would guess it's in the yellow zone; adding another 22 men's scholarships would put things well into the red.
My guess as to what NDSU would do:
1. W Tennis
2. W Swimming & Diving
...
9. W Wrestling
10. W Lacrosse
11. W Gymnastics
While equestrian fits into the whole ag/land grant thing, it's just so bloody expensive.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Tennis seems relatively easy to add. Lacrosse and Gymnastics could be great options due to popularity but I'm not sure where they would fit in terms of conferences, etc.

NMSU is cockblocked, Southern Utah...lol
Montanas yes but neither go without each other which causes issues

I'm partial to rugby, but I truly believe women's rugby could work. It is currently identified as an NCAA Emerging Sport. The infrastructure is there -- new field going in due to a strong effort from the current clubs and support from Student Government, alumni support thru the club teams, slowly growing post-college club teams in Fargo. It's a very cheap sport as far as equipment and training needs. The major cost would be travel as there are limited women's DI varsity programs:
Quinnipiac
Harvard
Army
Brown
Dartmouth
Sacred Heart
Long Island University
Mount St. Mary's
Princeton
They could also play against the top DI club teams, as those have traditionally been just as strong, if not better, then the above listed varsity programs.

Good to know. We went to the 7’s in Singapore in the before times. That was a good time. I guess we were the family friendly stop on the international rugby 7s tour though and that some of the other stops are full on party central.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Womens' Lacrosse for sure, it would help the university recruit Minneapolis area girls since they play Lacrosse down there.
NDSU name is out there on the boards, but they all seem to say "NDSU just wants to be big fish in small pond" verbatim.... sick.

Don't put too much stock in message boards, especially when it comes to the topic of behind the scenes conference affiliations.
Literally no one down here saw UT and OU leaving the B12. Even fewer saw the Sun Belt raiding CUSA. General population knows jack squat

I have not made it to one of the stops on the World 7's tourney series. And yep, they are definitely big parties with a festival-like atmosphere, interrupted by some pretty fantastic rugby action.

A couple from my ParkRun club won the costume contest and got an all expense paid trip for two to Paris for the finals so when you go bring your A game.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
UTEP
La Tech
Western Kentucky
middle Tennessee
FIU
NDSU
UConn
Liberty
instead of Indiana St, WIU, Youngstown, SIU, ILL St, Misery State then PUD dakota schools is SOOOOOOOOOOO much better
Throw in 2 POWER 5 OOCS games and then keep 1 regional Fcs team

Can you imagine how much shit we would get from the downstreamers if we played teams like Quinnipiac and called it REAL D1?

Re: A new and better FBS thread
i just watched 20+ FBS games on and off since i left Indiana St game at halftime. and every single one had better players and action. cannot wait for NDSU to be a part of it!!

Re: A new and better FBS thread
NOV 1 2021, We going on about 8 years of this FBS talk! the WAIT has been long enough.
I call the MWC Commish & ask him what's up *if he says, presidents dont want a fcs team, or travel* *if he says hold tight, BSU/SDSU might be leaving* then I wait.
then I call us CUSA & say " we will do CUSA for ALL sports only & we'd like flexibility with scheduling "
then I call Sun Belt & say "we'd do Football only & be back with some of our Rivals"
hell.. MAC isn't the best, but why not.
FCS is dead. fucking dead. and its HURTING our fanbase and you cannot fucking argue that.

Good article in the Denver Post. Pushing the Mountain West to expand into TX. They have also been in talks with Fox Sports and CBS Sports on what certain schools would bring in viewership value if they joined and how relevant they are in their market. I wonder what they said about NDSU.

This was an interesting quote regarding his conversations with the networks. “’What does this institution do? What does that number mean?’ … ‘Are you the key thing in that area?’ Those are the types of questions. It’s value-driven.”
On what planet would any of the available TX schools be the key thing in their area? A total homer of a geographically locked team could read a that positively.

So essentially the complete opposite of what they were saying 10 years ago when Rutgers joined the B10 lol. Glad they all came around and realized what any fan with half a brain could've told them.

I was referencing the current teams vs prices we pay...it demands a move up as we pay just as much or more than most G5 for a shittier pool of opponents
