You know how those rating services come up with those ratings? They find out which schools are recruiting someone. If all the top programs are recruiting people they become a 5-star recruit. If they are getting offers from several top programs they are a 4-star. And so forth. It has little to do with their actual ability. I'm sure those schools use the rankings to some extent but they are more interested in talent and skill and fit.

I see Bohl going to Wyoming and seeing some immediate improvements in 2 years. If he then gets them to a bowl game by year 3, he'll be a hot commodity for the BCS schools. Wyoming can't be an end point for someone with his resume. It was a way to get closer to the big boys.

That's interesting, I wasn't aware how the star system was done. Regardless how they rate recruits it is apparent that little star teams can beat big star teams. That would be an interesting comparative system...adding up all players recruitment star levels, how many more stars is K-State than NDSU. I wonder if coach Bohl isn't planning to retire in Wyoming. I wouldn't be surprised if he moves up nor would I be surprised if he stays having taken the job for the challenge and the desire to live there.

No doubt on this and part of the reason I admire Vigen for going with him as he is taking a hell of a chance. If it works out in Wyoming, Bohl will be set up perfect to finally get that Big 10 or 12 job he wants and Vigen will get another big pay raise.

Speaking of Sagarin ratings...I was checking out the K-State Forum earlier today and one of their newest posting was "Final sagarin ranking" and it had the big-12 teams and of course NDSU listed there as well, ahead of most big12 teams and it had a bunch of views but no comments. The way they have been carrying on with the "we would roll you if we played now" talk it must have driven them nuts to see NDSU at #17 because I think they deleted the thread. I was just back there and couldn't find it. Talk about prideful

And I'm still wondering why Bohl wasn't able to (or didn't want to wait to) turn his Bison success into a direct move into big-time football--as others had done before him. I get that he is able to identify some personal connections to the state--but I bet he'd be able to do that for almost any university anywhere. Is the lure of taking a bad FBS team to mediocre that great? Seems to me there has to be an already-mediocre team out there that would have hired him.

My only theory is skeletons from Nebraska; I have no other explanation as I agree it makes no sense which is why so many of us were shocked.
