Brief Description
The Bison met one of the all time characters in football history in Pokey Allen, head coach of the Portland State Vikings. His team matched the Bison touchdown for touchdown in the first half but the Bison offense led by center, Mike Favor, eventually wore down the Viking defense and scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to put the game away. Tony Satter, one of NDSU's all-time great runningbacks, rushed 11 times for 151 yards for a more than respectable 13.7 yards per carry average. The Bison threw only four passes the entire game as they took control of both lines of scrimmage.
