Honest question: why does every 'stay put' supporter feel the need to remind everyone that we need a conference invite to move up? Wasn't that covered in like 2011? Of course we need an invite, everyone knows that by now. Really the two questions to answer are "What does NDSU need to do to get that invite?" And "If they get the invite, should they take it?"

Because most move up now people think it's as easy as just seeking/accepting the invite. In addition they don't seem to grasp the reality(or maybe dont care) that a g5 conference will never get a sniff at the NC. They also seem forget/ignore the immense sums of money required not once but every year.

So the same arguments are made over and over again until the thread slows. Then NDSU beats an Iowa and someone starts a new thread or resurrects an old one to rehash the same arguments when nothing has changed in terms of requirements and cost/benefits.

I don't care how the vote ended up. They still suck and always will.

Agree with this. We have been hashing this over for years now and nothing has changed! To the move up crowd..Saying we need to move up ain't going to make it happen. If we had the money, a new stadium plan and an invite, I'm all in. Until then, not really much to discuss!

I pretty sure that anyone and everyone on BV knows the issues with moving up.

Are we all reading the newspapers out of Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks, even some of the national ones?

The state of North Dakota is hurting financially, and by recent reports is presently one of the 2-3 worst states in the US on that count.
The university system in North Dakota is not getting funding freezes or a modest one-time 2-5% funding reduction. The state legislature is making MASSIVE cuts to the universities. It was close to 20% last year - something like that - and there was recent talk of another 32% reduction. Dickinson State is looking at cutting its entire nursing program and ALL its sports programs. UND (foolishly, in my opinion) cut its women's hockey program, though it has produced Olympians from the region who have won medals. Did anyone see the article in the major newspapers in ND showing that all sports programs at NDSU, even the football program, are not self-sustaining? All of them loose money. (Now I recognize that the sports programs bring intangibles to a university that provide indirect financial benefits, these would not be included in such reports).

Whether we like it or not, NDSU is a public university, meaning no matter what happens, a chunk of its funding and perhaps most of its funding will come from the state. Donors ... they contribute a lot to NDSU's sports programs, something like $8 million per year ... but the state pays the lion's share.

Programs such as SEC, Big 10, Big 12, ACC, Pac-12, and so on ... their operating budgets are something $60-80 million per year. This is the nut to crack if NDSU is going to move up to FBS and be a realistic contender. And if it will not be a realistic contender, then why move up?

We wouldn't be hurting so bad if it wasn't so poorly managed at the height of the income, we still sit on 2 plus billion in a reserve fund.

ND is financially far better then 90 percent of the states, our leaders are just not good at using/saving funds on needed and unneeded items

The budget is required by state constitution to be balanced before the leg session ends which only meet every 2 years in ND not annually like other States so cuts are more extreme seemingly

    1. Build as stadium with at least 30,000 seats.
    2. Add Winnipeg to double our media market.

That answer should be in hand long before an invite is received

It seems people need to be reminded because threads like this keep getting started/bumped and the answer to "why aren't we moving up right now" is the same. If you keep asking the same exact question, why would you expect the answer to change?

The two questions you ask are incredibly valid; raise money, keep investing in coaches/facilities, and make NDSU attractive enough to G5 conferences to overcome the geographic limitations. Can't do a damn thing about location, so money becomes essentially the one thing fans can help with to make it happen, if you want it to happen.

Should they accept an invite/any invite? Some would say yes, any invite. Some would say only the right conference. Some would say no way, no matter what conference offers. For me, the G5 doesn't do much for me and we aren't getting a P5 invite. I'd rather play for natty's at a level that we can afford.

I dont think many that are "stay put". The fact is many that you think are stay put really are in the camp of knowing we cant do it now due to
$$$$$$$$$$$$, conference invite etc etc etc and it had to be whats best for NDSU as opposed to the faction that just want to move up---because we should.

As far as your two questions----- IMO it all depends on the invite doesnt it. You certainly dont want a conference based in the south. It has to be the right fit.
What does NDSU have to do to get an invite??? One must remember we have to be the right fit for the conference not only sports wise but more so what do we bring to the table academically? How do we enhance the standing of the conference. What do we offer that the other schools can use as a resource? Endowments and research are big things also. Just because we have a great football program only gets your foot in the door.
