Scrooge-"And the Union workhouses." . "Are they still in operation?". "Both very busy, sir..."
"Those who are badly off must go there."
"Many can't go there; and many would rather die."
Scrooge- "If they would rather die," "they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."

I think the comparison is that Wentz is was over thinking this game of football. When he just goes out there and plays, like the last 5 minutes of the half, he is something special. Mertens occasionally showed flashes of his great arm, but could never get past himself. Wentz can get past himself, but occasionally gets caught himself, as well. Both very cerebral guys. It isn't a stretch that when Wentz looks bad, it is quite reminiscent of those Merten days. I also think Merten didn't have the talent level around him to ever get out of that funk either for any significant period of time.

Bottom line, I don't have a problem with the comparisons at times because they both have a lot of similar qualities. I do think Wentz has shown when things are going well, he has more potential and can rely on the guys around him a lot more. I also think Mertens was put in a position similar to Wentz where people expected him to follow a great Bison QB and wanted similar results. The Bison also didn't surround him with the same level of personnel Walker had either. Bohl admitted they didn't recruit for the conference well enough and the entire team suffered. It is easy to put the blame on the QB.

When our offense looks bad, it does look bad. The blame goes further then just Wentz but we are conditioned to put the onus on a QB. He is an upstanding young man, he is also willing to take it. I do like that part of his character.
