Didn't make that comparison. Note the qualifier "in their own sphere." The only comparison was two programs, that do quite different things, having done very well and being justifiably proud of their accomplishments. Not saying band is like football at all.

That would not be the problem in Alabama. Even the Sioux Falls region has big-time high school marching bands.

To their credit, most of the area high schools here have strong band programs, plus we pull a lot of students from West Georgia, and there is a HUGE amount of drum corps activity. As to total citizenry, Alabama is not hugely populated and shares that probably with both Dakotas.

Additionally, in their own sphere, the NDSU CE Bridge Building team is worthy of being considered on the same level of Da Marching Southerners. Last I checked, our affectionately nick-named bridge building team, "The Non-Marching Not-Southerners." drew 80,000+ people for their half-time performance during the 2015 Rugby World Cup final in Twickenham on Halloween. Nobody was there to watch rugby.
