Been awhile since anyone piped in on the seating issue. Anyone know if they are doing anymore work on it in the off-season???

Obviously its nice to have an arena that actually looks like its intentionally used for Basketball- new concourses, bathrooms etc. Very cool.

    That being said.....

The finished product is a little curious to me. In the renderings (I know renderings are always different from the finished product) it is clearly a complete "bowl".. aaand the BSA is far from a complete bowl. To me, it looks like they added green seats where bleachers used to be, and collapsible bleachers everywhere else, with green seats...
The perception to me isn't at all like its a new arena, but simply new seats, lights and beautiful screen.
Hard to believe that they simply could not have made a new arena from scratch for $46 mil and gotten something a little better. Oh well, still a massive upgrade from the old BSA I suppose.
    1. The FCS was the Best option for NDSU for a very long time.
    2. As a general rule- the FCS sucks at football and has proven that is not committed to football at all.
    3. It's time to go FBS

It's all the other additions that drove the cost up and make the complex impressive. New weight room, locker rooms, academic center, student athlete lounge, basketball practice facility, rehab facilities, pools, X-ray machines, coaching offices, new ticket office with double doors, graphics, hall of fame, new furniture, concourse, etc... I think the indoor track is included in the price too. It was like 5 million bucks

Those additions are more impressive than the basketball arena itself which is nice but not blow you away nice

That's called a little bit of architectural trickery they took the rendering from the SW corner of the basketball court looking towards the NE corner of the building (this is the only arena rendering I recall seeing) which does NOT show the west side of the arena at all. If you look at the plans from the bid even though it was obvious it was not a full bowl configuration at that point, and that is about the time the renderings came out too.

I look at the SHAC as a stop gap for men's basketball. Something had to be done as the old BSA was killing us. Long term it will make an excellent home for women's basketball, wrestling, and volleyball while also housing women's soccer. Long term, we will need a new 7000 seat arena similar to what USD and UNI have. We were so far behind the 8 ball though with the rest of the sports that we simply had to do something. Unforunetly, the arena portion of the Shac only caught us up to the other Dakota schools. USD and very quickly SDSU with the frost renovations will have passed us by again. The bright side is that this brings us one step closer to a new football stadium. After a new IPF, new softball stadium, and refurbished Dacotah that is no longer cockeyed, hopefully we can turn our attention to solving the dome issue.

i don't think the UNI or USD facility is any more impressive than the SHAC. Maybe a tad nicer but pretty similar. But I agree it's not a long term place.

Imho we need to be the "do more with less" underdog program. All we can afford is functional not outlandish facilities. Spend the money on coaching not bells and whistles. Think Rocky vs. Drago. Lambeau Field vs Jerry World. Team vs individual. Tradition vs the next lime green uni with chrome helmets etc

We have facilities that represent what we are. A lower to mid major. They are arguably closer to mid major quality than lower mid mid major. As far as football goes, we are at or near the top. We are exactly where we want to be IMO.

Good to know- I haven't been able to see any of the interior in person yet, so I need to hold judgement till then, personally.

Wrong thread, but does anyone know why they are adding new turf to Dakotah? Like do we plan on using it for football again somehow or what is the purpose?

The Dacotah Field turf is just in pretty rough shape and it's been there since 2008 or 2009.
