I guess the debate turns would you rather be subpar in a lower tier conference just to say you're fbs or continue to dominate in the fcs and gain national attention just by being that good.

This is not 'Nam. This is Bisonville. There are rules here.
Does anyone realize that Boise is about 35% bigger than NDSU? in a metropolitan area about 4 times as large as Fargo?
There are many many more reasons why NDSU cannot be Boise.
Okay well regardless it's still the last relevant thing they have done in the last 15 yrs

The MWC is a mid-tier football conference in the FBS and an elite basketball conference. It is where NDSU athletics belongs.
With that said, building a 30k seat indoor stadium within the next 10 years might very well be more likely then getting in an MWC invite. Getting an actual invite from the MWC is the biggest issue the FBS dreamers have. Talking about the MAC or Sun Belt is more likely and then we really get into the debate you are talking about.
And if GSU stuffs Brock on 4th and goal all this rambling wouldn't even be happening...
The mwc, Mac, or whatever other low tier conference is not going to get ndsu more recognition. Beating fbs teams that everyone dubs superior, winning national championships, and doing everything ndsu in the classy way they do is going to be what will continue to get ndsu the attention it deserves. The play on the field is what is going to get ndsu the attention it deserves, not conference affiliation.

I am not sure I could disagree more. Dominating any of those conferences will get us more recognition. But I don't want to move up unless we have the tools in place to be dominant....which makes the stadium issue for me very big. I don't want to move up just for the sake of moving up like some people do, I want to be very good. Until I see a plan for that I am on the fence...
Boise State, in an off year, just played in the Hawaii Bowl which will have double the ratings that the game on the 4th will. The Bison have had a great last three years and have gotten some great national publicity. But let's not kid ourselves. On the national stage, we are still small time. Let's change that and move up!
Hm, If only there was a place to look that up:
ACC 1-1
B1G 0-2
Big 12 4-2
Pac 12 12-14 5-2 against Utah otherwise 7-12
SEC 1-4
so 18-23 Is that "very good"?
