If NDSU moves to the FBS...you can add $1.5 million automatically...that is the cut the lower FBS schools get from the playoffs. Money games would increase in value as well. These leagues also get some TV money.

There is a gap that we would have make up though. I won't deny that. How big that gap is, I'm not sure.
You're naive if you don't think Hot Al has anything to say about this. The donors are tapped out. Look at how long it took to fund the BSA project. Gene can't just shit checks when he wants. So........we need another$15 million per year to do this effectively as well as more stadium space later. Now.......before you come up withthe idea of a larger oudoor stadium....how well would games in November be attended? If the weather is crappy.....not very well.

FBS sounds fun, but you gotta deal with reality.

Al Carlson would look like this after he heard about NDSU going FBS........

Not completely accurate because the budget depends on many things. First and foremost cost of scholarships. That's why it looks like Harvard has a massive budget. Ndsu gets in state tuition rates for the tri state area, the source of most players.we also spend more on football

Exactly. A move to FBS will require major increases in annual revenue. It is not going to come from the state of ND, as much as some of you think it should. To generate substantially more revenue we would need a bigger new stadium with premium seating options. Also, I don't think an outdoor stadium is a viable option in Fargo. I don't know how we would pay for a 30,000 seat indoor football stadium.

I know that and they seem to be doing a good job which is why I brought them up.

NDSU would make up a chunk of that money just be moving up. But there would still be a significant chunk the school would need to raise itself. I am not denying that.

Al Carlson to me is irrelevant. NDSU has proven it can get what it wants done when it comes the legislature.

My concern is doing this right and the stadium issue is very relevant.

We don't belong in the MAC geographically and they surely don't want us. Where is this FBS conference for us to join? MWC seems like the most viable, but we would need huge upgrades (football stadium, basketball arena, competitiveness of basketball program) to interest them. Oh, we might have to move our state, too.

The MAC would be football only and I'm not sure they would go for it but there is no way all-sports would ever be an option I agree with that.

The MWC would have to lose teams in order for NDSU to get a look. If NDSU joined it would be a different conference.

Maybe a new conference could be created, Idaho's AD has throw around that idea.

Geography was one of my first points. If NDSU went FBS it would do it completely alone as no other schools in the area are even close to making a move like that.

Remember that one really fun FBS road trip every year? That's every away game. That would be terrible.

I want to make this clear....nowhere in my posts have I said NDSU should go or shouldn't go. I'm just presenting what I think it would take. I have always been on the fence about going FBS....the stadium issue and conference situation have always been two things that concern me.

Then it is very good that you are a student and not in charge of anything!
