Thought blitzkrieg would be more appropriate in describing NDSU's recruiting philosophy

Alot different than 5 years ago, when signing day was like xmas and 15 new presents were opened.

Also talks about how are the local DI schools are looking for any advantage they can get to have a leg up on a kid. NDSU's new trend to get out and offer kids in the summer took the other local programs off guard but they will be ready for it this summer. I don't think anybody is trying to accuse NDSU of anything negative, they've just changed the landscape of how recruiting will be done at the regional FCS level.
Why would what NDSU did in recruiting this year change how Stig and SDSU recruit kids? I mean according to Bobo they never offered or really recruited the two SD players that signed with NDSU. If everything is working out so well down in Brookings, why change? Am I missing something here? Also, I do think Stu is trying to bash the Bison just like coach what's his name from USD and he did during a live blog not to long ago.

Bohl didn't exactly reinvent the wheel here, he and his staff just put more time in and accelerated the recruiting process. It sounded like they put a heavy emphasis in getting to kids at their summer camp, which is probably good strategy.

There was no "scorched Earth" strategy. All Bohl did was adjust to the changing times, he was in tune with recruits, and thus got a lot of the guys that he wanted. It sounds like Stu has heard the griping from area coaches who weren't ready for the shift in what recruits want. I'm sure they will change, they will have to. But the SD media has turned NDSU into this bad guy, when really maybe they should get a little critical about their local DI coaches.

I disagree that the SD media has turned NDSU into the bad guy, don't generalize SD media with SF media. They aren't representative of all of us.

I apologize, I only meant the kool aid drinkers in the SF media. That town could really use a McFeely or Reusse type of columnist to shake things up a bit.

Don't feel special Bison fans, Stu spreads his hate out fairly evenly amongst the local DI colleges.

I don't mind Stu's rhetoric. Helps to build and fuel the rivalry.

I know I am going to catch a lot of hell for telling you all this, but I feel some strange need to do so.

When my buddy Mike Breske got to NDSU we had lunch several weeks in a row while he got accilmated since his family was still back in Laramie. He told me that before spring ball he sat down with Bohl and suggested to him that NDSU change how they were recruiting. Breske said (as close a quote as I can remember) "I told Craig we need to recruit like the big boys in BCS do it", which meant getting more kids in the camps and getting early verbals.

Breske told me Bohl had been thinking along the same lines but hadn't really formalized in his mind how it might be done, but readily agreed they needed to change things up.

So, I know Breske is hated pretty well on this board, but he told me from day one that he wanted NDSU to change the way they recruited and that it was an easy sell to Bohl. So, I am convinced that this new approach was Breske's idea, not Bohl's. I don't think the appearance of Breske and the change in recruiting from one year to the next is a coincidence.

I don't think Breske is hated. Just that he was not the right fit here at NDSU. If it was him who brought the change in recruiting style.

Everybody brings good and bad items and I would hope the coaches learned and implement a few of the good things he brought while here. He just didn't run the D that NDSU has based its program on and they were not ready to go with all out change in D Philosophy.
