Since all of you are so concerned about SDSU and recruiting, here is a quote directly from Coach Stig's keyboard today as part of a live chat with the Rapid City Journal earlier today. Stig was asked if SDSU is behind in recruiting, "I would say we are not behind, we move slower than the rest because we choose to get to know kids maybe a little deeper. We look for a true fit. Everybody does it how they feel fit."

Sounds pretty lame to me...Do they hold hands in a circle and sing Kumbaya with each recruit? Or do they offer them a beer or milk and see which one they choose?

Personally, I would rather have talent and the will to kick ass on the field (while staying out of trouble off the field) than some pussies who 'fit' in.

I am sure this quote reflects sincerity and honesty even though it reads like the typical corporate positioning statement used when the clients become concerned.

    I agree with both.

"We don't like them to see the Dykhouse center, as the kids don't play in the facilities."

We get it, you recruit different. Maybe TV can write another blog on Stig and how they are just different. So far we are having an amazing recruiting season. Each school is different. On signing day, I plan on being very excited as this class is composed of great student athletes, great GPA's, great multi sport/multi position athletes and the vast majority of them come from the region. Back to our roots so to speak. I get so frustrated when Stig says they like to get to know the kids more.....We get them on campus a year early and watch them in our own camp. Then do home visits, then campus visits, etc. Not sure what else you want. Bohl has changed his recruiting in the last two years, and the results show. Now it is time to start winning those close games.

    Can't wait for the future.

Just a reminder, when kids are on their campus visits, the coaches can't see them in action. No drills, no nothing. So, I really like our strategy of getting most of these kids up on campus in the summer for our camp. Sure get to know alot about a kid over a weekend camp. They get to interact with their position coach, the other players at camp, build a rapport. Again, I just don't see how anyone can spin what we have done this year as a negative. All Major D1 programs recruit this way. Why would a school wait for the last two weeks to do visits and make offers? Day late and a dollar short on a few kids. I don't argue with Stig's results. They work, but he did lose some regional recruits due to this change in philosophy.
