    The North Dakota state legislature created a bunch of red tape to award scholarships to students getting scholarship for a 3.0 GPA. If a kid hasn't decided what he wants to do by his junior year, good luck

    Summary of North Dakota Scholarship Eligibility Requirements To be eligible to receive a North Dakota Scholarship, students must meet these requirements:

    Earn a high school diploma
    Complete Essential Skills Requirements
    Complete a nine-week career education course or individual counseling
    Receive a score of 70% or above on the North Dakota Civics Test
    Earn a 3.0 Overall GPA
    ACT requirements
    Complete a Four-Year Rolling Plane. Meet four of the eight additional Essential Skills indicators
    25 hours of community service
    95% attendance
    Two or more years of co-curricular activities
    Complete the requirements of two of the three pathways below:a. Post-Secondary Ready Pathway (described on page 6)b. Workforce Ready Pathway (described on pages 7-8)c. Military Ready Pathway (describedon page9)
    Holy crap. I wonder how many state legislators have these requirements

    For a thousand bucks? How many high school guidance counselors get past the second criteria before they stop reading?

    We all live in stories... It seems to me that a definition of any living vibrant society is that you constantly question those stories... The argument itself is freedom. It's not that you come to a conclusion about it. Through that argument you change your mind sometimes... That's how societies grow. When you can't retell for yourself the stories of your life then you live in a prison... Somebody else controls the story. - S. Rushdie

    I agree. NDSU has - what - 450 M in endowments. Probably a lot of scholarships.

    One of my endowments is for North Dakota or Minnesota graduates. GPA is 3.5. I do what I can. I think most have been from Minnesota. Judging by thank you notes return addresses.

    Some of that, I think it’s a lower percentage, is almost impossible to award because the donor has such specific criteria no student meets it.

    I spend time perusing NDSU scholarships. Some are too specific. I specifically included MN because of that. The MOUs can be amended.

    I LEFT OUT SOUTH DAKOTA! HINI.

    They can be amended but sometimes explaining to the donor how their money will never get used because their MOU states the student has to be u see 6’, have ridden a horse, comes from the middle of nowhere county in ND and the first in their family to go to college somehow goes over their head.

    It’s their money and NDSU does a great job stewarding their wishes it’s just that some people can’t see the forest for the trees.

    According to the Provost:

    * New first-year students are up 3.0% and new transfer students are up 3.0% over last year;
    * International student enrollment shows a 21.7% year-over-year increase;
    * Online program enrollment has also grown sharply, up 82.2% year-over-year;
    * 201 more students graduated this year than last.

    All good numbers.

    Agree. Keep LRSC and NDSCS. I'm ok dumping everything else though.
