We did not have wellness centers back in the 1970s. "Wellness" was defined as running to classes so you are on time. Memorial Union back then had the charm and comfort of a bus station. Today, parts of it are nicer than my living room.
We STOOD IN LINE and exchanged SMALL TALK while we waited to register for classes. We learned PATIENCE standing in line. Not now, when people get upset if they have to wait 20 seconds for a screen refresh. I remember standing in line to pay my tuition ($250 a quarter). Further ahead was a student from Wisconsin who had to pay $500. A loud murmur went through the crowd - "Did you hear the clerk say he had to pay $500?" OMG. Books were $5 or $10 tops and when we heard a chemistry book was $30, we went into deep shock.
I remember when the NDSU Library went digital. My old-school history prof said she liked the old card-catalog way cuz it taught patience. Now look at society - we want EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME, ON TIME, AND if we don't get it ON-TIME EVERY TIME, we blow a gasket.
And I swear on the Bible, during my years at NDSU, I never ONCE heard an F-bomb being said. Not saying it was not SAID SOMEWHERE but I never heard it. Kids use profanity like word fillers these days.
Why are you screaming?????

When you play football, you gotta like the taste of blood, And 50 percent of the time, it's your blood.
You don't give out trophies for losing. Trophies for sucking. That's a communist idea. You don't get a trophy for losing. You get a piece of pizza and you shut up. Trophies for losing? What the hell happened to us?
