I'm fascinated by the media piece of all this in a dying linear TV world. I have an extremely difficult time believing a Sam Houston St game gets as many eyeballs as an NDSU game. The regional sports networks are dying, so just counting on folks passively paying cable bills, is over.

If your conference shares all media rights/revenues being the worst market is OK, but does the conference want you? Conversely if you're the best market you don't want to share those rights/revenues. It's the old 'never be the best or worst house on the block' problem.

If markets mean so much, why are NDSU's TV numbers constantly pretty damn good? If you are trying to draw ratings and exposure for your conference it takes more than just being a school in some giant market. Your brand can carry clout and bring exposure and revenue to a conference, NDSU has that. I think our admin does a piss poor job of leveraging that fact.

Much of the frustration comes from the fact that because of the lack of groundwork that has been previously laid, they have put themselves in a position that not much can be done now. I don't view them as innocent "victims" of this situation. They contributed to the current situation and should be held accountable for that.

This..At the moment there is just some preliminary discussions. One distinction, Gloria Nevarez informed the MAC that these discussions were coming. That doesn't always happen. I am somewhat intrigued by this possibility. If both schools accepted they would only have 3 road games outside the CST as they would play each other every year. Football only is not particularly expensive or taxing. Olympic sports travel is expensive and logistically tougher.

If UM truly has zero desire to advance the athletic dept then just make an official announcement. Hey we are happy just right where we are. We will ride this ship in any direction it takes us. Yes even if that might be in the third tier of college football.
If UM has no growth aspirations then really stop spending millions on facilities. What’s the point then really. Why waste the money competing at a level that makes no money. Just to hope we can beat Western Washington and other DIV II teams along with Northern Colorado, Portland State etc we will be grouped with.
It just seems we are happy sitting on our hands.

This is how I feel too. It seems a waste to add on to the stadium, build a bubble, invest all this money in student athlete centers and weight rooms just to compete with schools playing on high school fields.
Maybe this is the direction Montana wants to go, in which case, good luck to them.
But the reason they won't make that announcement is that all the money will dry up real quick

Toledo and NIU are being mentioned before NDSU as potential adds to the MWC. Explain to me how that happens if NDSU has laid the groundwork of preparing us for an FBS invite.
