The power conferences just saved the NCAA so it should be obvious at this point who’s in charge. NCAA is powerless but doesn’t have to worry about getting sued anymore. That was the gist of the deal. BB tournament stays intact, and if they make a new premier FB level it will surely be under the 'banner' of the NCAA. I have no doubt about this
Big schools will feel the burden of paying ridiculous money for top prospects and the players will probably sign multi-year contracts, so if they end up sucking, the schools will be stuck with them. Small schools will have to prioritize what they want to support, which will drive alignment with similarly minded schools, and if you can lock down an over-looked 'blue chipper' in a contract, the portal looms less large than it does now
Some schools may decide to simply get out rather than field teams with what they can actually afford. I guess we’ll see, but I'm not as bullish on that as some
